So much insight in this thread.

It would have been better if it had not been posted anywhere.

Could someone please explain the benefit of a NFCU membership?

I honestly don't know. I've looked around and it seems like they give big limits sometimes?

Serious question! :)

I wasn't laughing at your question. I was laughing at the answer.

Hi everyone,

My cousin called me earlier today saying NFCU approved his membership & upon opening a Savings and everyday checking account he applied to their unsecured cashRewards CC and got instantly approved (HIS 1st CC EVER - no Joke he absolutely has no history and this CC will be his first).

what you think his strategy should be in the next 3-6 months and the next 6-12 months to build a solid credit/history and eventaually what should his next step be whether with NFCU or External?

Is there anything he should particularly consider after this 1st CC approval?

Thank You

Since this is literally his first card what amount did he get approved for?

Brand new poster, but secret stalker of CB for a couple of months now. Just tried this today. I followed Konrad's OP word for word, along with PPP's margin note. I'll let everyone know if it's still a legit way to get into NFCU once I hear back. Thanks for all of this info. It's VERY overwhelming at times, but EXTREMELY useful.

I followed it word by word two weeks ago and just got my Navy League email with membership Number and San Diego as an assigned council. They (NLUS) gave me hard time though to enroll me in San Diego as requested but i found a legit way and it worked out just fine. I getting my papers ready to join NFCU in a week or two.

Good Luck .. CB rocks

Navy just offered me my first real 0% BT.

-0 fee

-0% for 12 months

I think I will take them up on the offer just to run some activity through the card.

Looks like NFCU isn't useless after all.

I got the same offer in email too. Thinking if I should BT back again from PenFed. :-)

Update: STILL haven't heard if NFCU is a go or not.....but to be fair, I am impatient by nature. Alas I wait.

And just like that, "Welcome to Navy Federal"!!!

So yep, still works. Do exactly what Konrad and PPP say to do and it's pretty gravy (other than waiting, lol).

Thanks a TON!

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to get the same offer. Consider it accepted: C$R, Freedom Unlimited, BOA all transferred for 0% fee, 0% for 12 months. SHOPPING SPREE!!! Well... maybe not, but happy to have additional breathing space for Christmas and upcoming vacations

Same here. I'm gonna jump all over that as soon as statement cuts on the 27th. My offer is only good til 12-31-16 though. Most BT offers with other banks are good for at least 2 months or so. I just got my offer this week.

Is the offer good for multiple balance transfers?

how bk friendly are they?

I don't know. Generally they are considered great for rebuilding. You may need to start with a secured card, but they will grow you to unsecured and increase you credit lines as time goes by and you continue to demonstrate your credit worthiness to them.

How old is you BK and what are your stats?

My BK was at 2 years past discharge when I joined in July.

They started me off with a $2,000 Cash Rewards card that was increased to $15,000 in November.

I also have a $15,000 checking line of credit with them.

So the answer to your question is YES but as Mec said depending on how old your BK is you might have to start out with a secured card.

I wouldn't hesitate one second knowing just how good they can be.
