So what did you get in the mail today?

Recommended Posts

An offer for a Merrick Bank "Double Your Line' Visa...$700 initial CLI and $1400 after 6 on-time payments...36.49% interest...yeah I'll be hopping on that straight away.

Balance X-fer checks from Citi and BOA.

APR is 0% if you PIF...unless, of course, that card doesn't have a grace period...does it have an AF?

BT checks from Citi (now with the fee dropped from 5% back down to 3%)   Automobile title from payoff of our last auto loan.

Got some medicine for my cancer. It came overnight. Yeah.

I think the whole "you need an installment loan reporting" exposes one of the weaker side of FICO credit scoring.  You can't tell me that among stronger credits, the presence of an installment isn't a

I've been away from home for a few weeks so I've come home to a large stack of mail:

5 fashion catalogs

2 Citi bank application letters

2 Discover application letters

1 Chase Freedom Unlimited application letter

Local sales papers

A few minor bills

Doesn't Merrick Bank have the same credit underwear staining characteristics as Credit One and First Premier?

I'm not sure. Hasn't been an issue for me so far........

I've got a Merrick CC. No AF or other fees. APR is 24%. Nothing spectacular though. Thing about Merrick is you have to pay attention to their offers. Their offers and T&C are all over the place. Everything from cards like mine, all the way up to outright fee harvesters.

Not sure I've ever seen a Credit One or First Premier card that wasn't a fee harvester.

My mom had a Merrick when she was building. It was similar to yours...not the greatest but not as bad as Credit One and First Premier fee wise. One thing that was annoying was that it did have a $4 monthly fee. Their website sucked complete butt though, but it helped otherwise.

She got rid of it last year once she got two AMEX revolvers and a BOA Cash Rewards on pre-qual offers.

I got pissed at a catalog company sending me 2 catalogs today. I told them several months ago to stop, they also shared my address and I got one for another company yesterday. I know they shared it because it wasn't my name on the catalogs. This time I put in their web form that I'd file a PS 1500 if it didn't stop.

Target Red Card $1,000 for my wife.

She has prime cards with $20,000+ limits and 5% cash back.

But this silly $1,000 Target Red Card is the one that got her visibly excited.

She was acting like it was Xmas when she opened the envelope. It was hilarious.

It's TARGET. Maybe it's a girl thing. Because I LOVE target.

I tried to find their T&C, but apparently you have to apply for the card to know what's in it.

More BT checks for my Double Cash account. 0% until July of 2017 with 4% fee, same as last week. Blah.

BT checks for my Southwest card. 0% until November 2017 and 2% fee. Better, but still meh.

Both straight to the shredder.

DW got her monthly loan statement on the Mini. She needs to go paperless and save us some trash since her payments are made electronically every pay period anyway.

Got my Chase Sapphire Preferred Reserve today. Plastic. Wonder if they'll auto replace it with metal when it becomes available again.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Does the metal version have better rewards?

Yes, it doubles as a wine bottle opener. A reward in itself.

I got a pre-approval for $25K from PenFed

Same here.

The funny thing is, we've been with PenFed since somewhere around '04 (the wife opened the a savings account with them at the very beginning of her pre-BK obsession with CC collecting). As far as I'm aware, we've never had any kind of credit cards with them, and we certainly didn't IIB them. Our logins are froze, and I am not real sure I want to call them to have them unlocked. Maybe in a few years.

Aside from the PenFed offer, I also got a check from Wal-Mart for $0.92...for an over-payment I'd somehow made a few months ago. I thought about framing it and hanging it on the wall in the garage as a joke, but I should probably just deposit it into my savings account (so I'll have almost a buck in there  )

I have been a member since 2004 too and have only savings account for membership. My $5.00 has accumulated interest and is about $5.50. If you deposit the Walmart check, you will have $6+.

So- my credit file has not significantly changed in a long time (and I qualified for long-term zero% auto loan back in April).

I do carry significant balances on my credit cards, but always pay (auto-pay) significantly more than minimum payments.

but something triggered an odd cascade in the last few weeks.

I got notice one of my Synchrony accounts had suddenly had the credit limit dramatically reduced. I contacted them and they said they periodically check credit report and make changes. The letter they sent indicated high balances to limit on cards.

a day later ai get another letter from Synchrony- for a second account with them was having the limit reduced...

we all know this impacts your credit score, as it messes up your utilization %.

today, I got notice from a different bank- that, due to higher credit utilization rates, they dramatically reduced my limit in that card -

Which of course now even further rips my credit score...
And this afternoon, I get notice from Synchrony that my Automotive account (that has never had particularly high balance can limit) was having a limit reduction down to the current balance!

What’s going on?  I have NEVER been late, never payed just the minimum payments on any accounts...

Is there some massive banking “surprise” on the horizon?

I did recently put a credit freeze on all 3 bureaus due to someone filing for unemployment with my name/SS# and I filed a police report on that.

I have paid credit monitoring service- and there is nothing new or odd on my CR...

      So what’s going on?

There is no paywall.   I did not know this, but found it interesting.
