Sitting on 225 TYP. I don't need HHonors points; sitting on >450k

Transfer to Singapore air seems the best option since I don't want more HHonors points.

Unless: if I transfer to a Oneworld partner can I then move the miles into Avios? If so, which partner is easiest?

Probably better to just cash out the 225 points.

Speaking of TYP I received a letter from Citi that my Sears Mastercard is going to TYP from "Sears MyWay" points. Sign of a Citi-Kmart-Sears breakup in the works?

Kmart is already on the ropes. Sears isn't far behind.

Next decent economic downturn, one or both are gone.

Interesting to see creative destruction at work.

Sears/Kmart just closed another 78 stores.

The end is nigh.

I have not stepped foot in Kmart or Sears in two decades.

Your loss. :)

He doesn't M$ so no loss to him.

The closest Kmart to me is about 2 hours away. There are 0 in the entire DFW area. I'm surprised they're still around.

  • 4 years later...

(sorry Pam)

so I've decided to leave the TYP ecosystem. (reasons: lack of limit combos, strange CLI denials, TYPs have always been marginal compared to UR, MR, or my straight 3% card)

The transfer partners are pretty weak but the statement credit rate sucks and the travel redemption is no longer 1.25%.

I'm leaning toward FlyingBlue transfer hoping I'll find use on KE someday and to help top off my account as I have not spent much on my Flying Blue credit card.

The good news is I do not have nearly the number of TYPs as I did when I started this thread.

My question is: does anyone want to convince me taking the simple statement credit is a better value than the value of an hypothetical future trip?

They're pretty horrid but at the rates I accrue them (Slower, but at lower cost per point), I'm okay with it.  And as to the conundrum of simple statement credit vs hypothetical trip?  Well, consider the value you place on your own free time and the opportunity costs in having to hunt for a semi-decent redemption at a place you'd feasibly want to go versus the joy of being done with TYPs and Scittybank...and then go on with peace of mind and a raised middle finger at your leisure.
