2008 was a rough year for us after I lost a significant portion of my income. After using up all available funds we found ourselves 31 days late on our mortgage for the next 4 years. We couldn't get back over that hump until Jan 2014 at which time the mortgage was brought current and has remained current. Citi was the mortgage holder and we kept them apprised of the situation the entire time. In Nov of '14 they transferred the mortgage to BOA.

After reading here about good will letters I wrote the CEO of Citi Mortgage North America. I got a response today from the Executive Response Unit declining my request. The meat of the response is;

"Please understand, in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) we are required to report factual information, based on the actual historical data contained within your records. Our review of your loan's transaction history indicates that the information reported on your account is accurate, we are unable to adjust your credit report as you are requesting"

This will be the only bad mark on my report come May and it would be nice to get this clean, if possible.

Any thoughts on where to go from here?

I would google goodwill letters for late payments and send a different one every time they deny until you get some luck.

You might say in the letter that you talked to the CRAs and they said they would report anything that Citi authorized them too but that it had to come from Citi... and can you please help me (achieve something you are striving for with your credit)... blah blah... Thanks so much for being the best bank Citi...

Keep sending to the same email/physical address or change it up each time?

I don't know the answer to that but I think both might be better. ie sending to several addresse repeatedly.

Does anyone know if Citi has any history of labeling account holders for repeatedly requesting such a good will action?
