Why is any water works in America still using lead pipes for anything? They should have been replaced years ago.

And even now the Governor isn't asking for Federal money to replace the pipes, which is the proper LONG-TERM solution.

The governor declared a state of emergency and requested federal aid

Yes, for bottled water and filters. That was my point. The policy failure that brought about this entirely preventable disaster, simply continues.

It was well established that lead pipes are not suitable for drinking water long ago, during the days when Detroit and Flint were prosperous. The government had other priorities.

Chemicals placed in the water prevent the lead from getting into the water. ..flint did not use this

That is a classic example of a stopgap "kicking the can down the road" solution. Besides being dangerous to the public, it is foolish. At some point the cost of the chemicals will exceed that of replacing the pipes.

And in this case, they weren't even willing to spend the money on chemicals.

They don't fully prevent the lead from entering the water, only reduce it. If you have lead pipes, you have lead in the water.

There's nothing small about Michael Moore - besides the amount of gray matter between his ears

OK, um.... I know I must be misunderstanding something here.
1. No one asked for a feasibility study before they decided to use the river water? Environmental studies?

2. They noticed the increase in lead levels in children over 3 months ago, and they are only calling a state of emergency....now?

WTF???

Lots of people die in Flint from lead poisoning every year, so the water supply is just a minor thing.
