Amex Biz Platinum, 25K MR points with no spending requirement.

My AF will post in June, and I am going to close the card before then since I already have the personal Platinum.

The 30% bonus for using points for airline purchases on my airline of choice is not enough of a benefit for me to keep this open. I'm going to close it and hope in the future for a targeted offer without the once per lifetime language.

The only advantage to closing the business card is that I may receive a targeted offer without the once per lifetime language and be able to get another 150K MR point bonus.

Because of the 30% bonus for using points for purchases on my airline of choice, the business card is slightly better, but I will never use that option, so they are both of equal value to me.

Dammit, I'm jealous. They only gave me 10K pts...

I'm also keeping the personal platinum... mainly for FHR and because it was from before they stopped doing D*.

So how soon is too soon to start requesting retention offers?

Any one ever get multiple retention offers on the same card year?

I called barclay to have the AF removed on my Aviator Red. They removed the annual fee and will give 5,000 miles for $1000 spend within 90 days.

It looks like I'm not going to receive the AF waiver. I noticed the $89 fee assessed and called in. They traced the call and determined when I spoke w/retention and asked about a fee waiver, the rep didn't deny the waiver. she said there was a downgrade offer and we moved on to the bonus spend offer. She said the conversation sounded as if I thought I received the waiver but at the same time. the rep thought I was forgoing the issue. I don't remember any talk about a downgrade.

I was told that because a 2nd disclosure wasn't read, I didn't receive the waiver.

Now, they are offering the downgrade and my decision is time sensitive. Not a happy camper.

Barclays AA Red AF posted a few days back. Called in to cancel. Transferred to specialist. Offered to waive AF and with a little spiel about utilization management offered up a 5k SP CLI in addition to the AF waiver. First time luv from barclays.

When I spoke with a Barclay's rep the other day she seemed to imply that high dollar spend wasn't as important to them as some spend and PIF. Seems to be right in line with that.

Citi Premier AF about to hit... called to see if any offers.

Rep noted two temp offers already activated on the account (below). Waiving the AF, any other spend point bonus or apr reduction was a no go. Thinking I am horrible at retention offer attempts. :)

Use your Citi ThankYou® Premier Card to earn 5 ThankYou® Points per $1 spent on purchases you make at home improvement stores, home furnishing stores, computer & electronics stores and department stores.1 Earn up to 2,500 points through 06/30/2016.

Upon enrollment, when you use your Citi ThankYou® Premier Card, you will earn 5 additional ThankYou® Points per $1 spent on stays at more than 4,440 hotels and resorts within the Hilton Portfolio.1 This is in addition to the 3 ThankYou Points you already earn for every $1 spent at hotels.

If you may use MRs for miles conversions you would be better off paying the fee with cash.

Did you already take your airline $100 credit?

Yes, I have a $100 AA GC, and I can get another airline credit in about 2 weeks.

The airline credit is by calendar year, not account anniversary year.

For example, if you got an airline credit on December 31, 2016 you would be eligible again on January 1, 2016.

AX offered jack chocolate on Plat as far as retention goes. Cancelled with partial AF refund and about an hr later put in app for AX MBenz Plat for 75K/3K and HHonors 75K/1K.

Both went straight into pending as most of my AX apps go. I'm confident i'll get approved for the charge card at the very least. If I get the HH it'll probably have a poopy limit like my SPG did.

Anyone ever rapid succession burn a card issuer by cashing in multiple retention offers then closing the cards.

I have 3 charge cards from amex that have their annual fees due in January, March & March of 2017 and I'm feeling a little tentative about asking for retention offers on all three when I know I will be closing at least 2 of them.

I guessing I should ask for retention in November, December & December... and close in December and February.

Does it matter if you have a bunch of MRs points when asking for a retention offer? I called AMX about getting my EDP AF waived that's due in July and she offered nothing. She mentioned I should use my MRs before I close the account, so I don't lose them. Then she actually said the new Costco Card from Citi and said it was a good choice for me to earn cash back! haha I'm curious if they know I'm bluffing...

AF is posting next billing cycle on my AMX EDP. I called today and the initial customer service rep transferred me to an account membership specialist after trying to persuade me that paying the annual fee was in my best interests (haha ya right). The specialist offered a $75 statement credit to offset the $95 AF, I accepted. This is a heavy spend card with the balance paid in full every month.
