I've called twice now on the personal aadvantage platinum select. The af just posted and I was shot down both times. I have business version of this that I successfully obtained an offer on. Any reason to keep his card open? I could move the limit to the ty premier.

Thanks

I was wondering if Citi was going to be stingier on retention offers after last week's smack down.
Maybe. It was a completely different experience than he previous card where I was successful. Maybe connected or maybe they are aware I was just given a retention offer

I believe each offer is targeted to the individual card. I was able to get multiple offers weeks apart from different cards on the same account

I only ask because there is conflicting information here.

It kind of goes back and forth but from what I gathered, you cannot combine limits except MAYBE at a new app, but Citi is listed as being able to combine limits when previously it was only when opening a new account.

Will Citi combine lmits? The lady I called today was being very vague. I am not going to keep the personal AAdvantage Platinum Select when I have the business version.

You need to speak to a CS supervisor or the EO can help you. It should be a hard pull.

I've done this before.

Is there any way to get merrick to remove the AF? It is my only credit line over 5 years and haven't wanted to close it. Most of my cards are under 2 years so it would hurt my AAOA. I called once a while back and they said FOAD.

Remember positive accounts stay on for 10 years after closing so it won't have an immediate affect on your AAOA if you close it.

Isn't there an average age of open and them an average age of all including closed?

I know it should just be closed since it was a garbage card but it was my first rebuilder and it has grown to 5k limit.

Vantage scores look at average age of open accounts. FICO doesn't care if they are open or not for your age.

Citi acted almost as if they wanted me to close the card. I obliged them. No sweat off my sack.

I'm not sure what you're doing.

What happened now?

I called 7 or 8 different times over the course of a week to see about a retention offer. Each time, I told them I was considering closing the card and not sure that I wanted to keep the account open or not. The last time I called was right before I posted. Each time I have called, the CSR's immediately offer to close the account. Today, I called and asked if they had a retention department first. The rep said yes. I asked if I could speak with that department and the rep asked why. I told him that I am contemplating rather or not I want to keep this card. The rep then offered to close the account. I explained to the rep what just took place. That I had asked him if they had a retention department and after he said "yes they did" and I then asked to be transferred, and he then asked, "why", and then I told him why, that he then offered to close the card and not just transfer me to that department. The rep kept dancing around the subject of a retention department and not transferring me. I asked again if Citi had such a department, and he again said yes. I asked again if I could be transferred to that department. The rep then offered to close my account for me. I then just asked, am I not allowed to be transferred to that department? I didn't get an answer. I explained that I keep asking him to be transferred but its not happening. I am not being told that he will or will not transfer me. He just kept avoiding the request and offering to close my account. So I asked again, and I was put on hold for 5 minutes. When he came back, he offered to close my account again. I asked again if I could be transferred to the retention department and after dancing around the subject some more, I asked again if I am not allowed to be transferred to that department and I finally got a straight forward "no". Ok with me. Close the account.

I didn't ask about combining limits because it wasn't worth a hard pull or more monkeying around with this guy. I am curious what current experiences people are having with Citi. When I called for a retention offer a month or so ago, It was easy peasy. Like I said, it seemed like Citi wanted me to close the card. You don't have to beg me to save $95 on a SD card.

I know the above post really runs on and seems to repeat itself. That is how the conversation went though. Each time above that I state the rep offered to close the account or I asked to be transferred, etc etc was a new occurrence of said statement.

Very strange. I'm sure Cappy will give you some "you should have..." comments, but I understand why you closed it.

ha ha. Good call. Cappy is a good dude though.

Sigh. Yesterday was one of those days where nothing went right. Work, traffic, etc. Hell, the money order machine broke on me yesterday and it was a big deal to get fixed after I had already paid.

I woke up today and saw that I had a new collection added to my Equifax file. Off to start a thread I guess

  • 4 weeks later...

Just Called about the Barclay Aviator Red(general customer service number),She Couldn't waive the AF, No offers, and when i asked about the no fee version she said she could only offer the Silver version of the card no downgrade.

Do I just keep calling back in hopes of another rep offering something, or do i need a new approach I.e call a different number or escalate the call, or a different reason as to why I'm canceling the card?

HUCA.

If you really want a no-fee version, there is the Aviator Vanilla. There's also an Aviator Blue with I believe a $60ish AF.

She acknowledged the Non-AF version and said I could only upgrade to the silver. I will hang up and call again, Do they respond well if you mention you have the Citi AA card?

I had the same issue. Speak to a manager.

They told me NO AF waiver or no downgrade options.

As soon as I spoke with a supervisor, they were able to downgrade me

Damn Chase is incompetent.

I called about an Ink+ retention offer. The initial CSR drug his flowers getting me to the retention department. Then the retention lady drug her flowers. She offered to "upgrade me" to an Ink cash, and offered to raise my interest rate from 13.49 to 19.49. Sweet deal huh? Then she went to get a supervisor, and disconnected my 22 minute phone call.

I call back, and get a sweet Filipina on the phone. The sweet Filipina tells me she's not trained to deal with business accounts. Why the hell route phone calls to call centers that are incapable of doing anything for the account?

This card is a good earner, but that is where it all ends.

Got 10K MR points for not closing my Business Platinum, no spend requirement. This is the 10 month mark. Come 12 month mark and annual fee posts... guess what's gonna happen?

Closers gonna close!

Now that's a retention offer.
