From $1,200 available credit to $105,000 in a little over a year. What helped me most was:

-PsychDoc Seminars

-Sample Letters

-PFD Strategies

-Difference between JDB and CA

-Prybar strategies

-Brian and Dallas in Mortgage section

GoodCreditSeeker:

1. Your FICO will play a crucial part in the type of serious approvals you can get. Work on cleaning and building your big three reports.

2. Start small and pay 30-day accounts on time. (Quill, Uline, etc.)

3. Create and maintain your online profile: Claim your Google, Bing and Google Plus listings. Make sure your information is consistent and accurate.

Don't be too quick to pull the trigger.

Always research before pulling the trigger.

I know myself (and probably many others), would be stuck with a bunch of low-limit Comenity store cards, First Premier, and Credit One cards. The best thing that ever happened to me was being denied for Credit One. I ended up doing HOURS of research, found out about secured credit cards, researched more, then pulled the trigger on the Capital One secured card (which, at the time, allowed me to increase the deposit at any time). I believe this got me to the road to success. It will be exactly 5 years ago on Friday.... I can't believe it has been this long!

Patience.

a few months later after further clean up I had an amex prg. and, BTW, it was a secured CapOne that I was denied... HI off in June of 2016, joy.

only HI left are AmEx(2) and Citi(1). none on others due to extensive gardening and former B*.

The useful things I've learned on CB depend on where I was in my journey, I've been a member for nearly 10 years.

At first, when I was repairing my credit, everything listed beforehand (previous messages) was invaluable.

Later, as I then started to rebuild my credit:

- Understanding FICO score factors

- Tradeline aging

- Amex D* (RIP)

- Recon, recon, recon

- Higher limits beget higher limits (prybarage)

Now, as I work on Credit Pimp Status, the most helpful information is which cards offer the benefits that work for me, high limits, etc.

Special shout out to Bob Wang, Mendlesshon, CV for all their hard work and knowledge.

Quietman

this above, plus B* in its time. Also Kman, Uber, BDK, MarvBear, and Shifter...always speakers of the truth and research. And HL, who IS still alive, BTW, and now in NYC.

1) How to dispute lates and clean up my reports.

2) Teaching me that higher available limits aren't a bad thing (still amazes me how many people I know have this same assumption towards credit).

3) How to best play the FICO game.

Notable mention to B*, C*, and D*, of course (among the countless other life lessons provided here)

Avoiding trash/store cards.

You read about shopping cart tricks, store cards, handfuls of CapOnes and it seems like a good idea at the time. I'm glad I paid attention to the outspoken critics of trash/store cards.

Now my trash cards are $35K Lowes, $30K Walmart MC, $35K Penfed, $10K DCU's and $10K Disco's. They're trash because they really offer nothing. PenFed and DCU are good for future auto options, but the CC products are blah.

I try to pass on that learned philosophy from people who no longer post here, but unfortunately it seems the scales have tipped more towards the MyFico direction lately.

Very true. I avoided those early on. I'm glad I learned about top tier CCs and banks.

I could use some lessons in disputing lates. I just got it with one after almost 10 years. Just when I was about to make some major financial moves.

What are B*, C*, D*?

B* = Bumpage

An unethical, but fun way of removing hard inquiries from EQ and TU before the 2 year expiration date.

C* = Choppage

Measures taken by the evil credit bureaus to stop us from having fun and enjoying life by resorting to sneaky tactics that try and stop us from bumpage. Usually this entails the removal of soft inquires from our reports to impede us from reaching the magic number of 85 soft inquires needed to achieve B* on EQ. This occurs once, twice or three times a month.

D*: Amex used to backDate new accounts as opened in the same year as your oldest account with them:

Don't say anything negative about the staff here on CB otherwise you will get put on moderation and will have to have your posts preapproved first.

Don't jump on the banwagon for every great card out there, next thing you know you will have a zillion cards...

LakersFan let's clarify:

**The staff just won't tolerate Trolls, Attitude or B.S. They are more than patient. There are a few posters I would have blocked, but they were more than patient and let them continue to dig that hole. If you are on here to learn and contribute, you'll find they go above and beyond to help (as do the regular posters).

First thing I learned when I found CB was that one doesn't need to close accounts to make room for new/better accounts. And, there is no such thing as "too much credit"

Posted

I learned that no matter what credit situation I am in there's always someone with a 'been there done that' willing to help. There are so many invaluable lessons in the forum that were confidence boosters when I had to deal with creditors. I am inspired to reach 800s.

Things that have helped me the most on CB were the things I didn't know existed

* Reconning

* Obsolete disputes

* Backdoor numbers

* The fact sp CLIs can be had

1 and 3 have served me well. Explain 2 and 4.
