See, I used to frequently say that "I've bee meaning to cancel Worst Premier" only I said that so much, quoth Homer Simpson, "it's lost all meaning."

But oh-HO!!!!

In yesterday's mail, see, was a letter stating that they have increased my credit limit from $300 to - sit down for this $700!!!!

What on Earth do I need with my $10,500 Citi Executive World Elite, $13,000 Discover IT, $13,900 Chase Sapphire Preferred®, and $15,000 US Bank Platinum NOW??!!?

They aren't kidding, kids: Higher limits beget higher limits.

FP sent another offer in the mail the other week. It was for $700. It went to the shredder.

Merrick sent another offer, got it in the mail yesterday. Pre approved for $700, perfect payments for six months it auto CLI to $1400. Not a turd, fee harvester like First Premier. Nothing special either, the terms are like my Cap1 platinum MC, except no 0% for 6 months offer. Simply a no frills card. Since there is no AF or other fees, I might just fall off the wagon and get it.

Not sure what's special about $700, but it seems to be the new magic number for FP and Merrick.........

I got an offer from Merrick several years back which I accepted. Doubled my limit in 6 months to $1800. Never increased again. It's been in the sock drawer for years. I've heard its subprime but I think it was helpful in my rebuild, without the crazy fees.

Merrick caters to the rebuilder market. Far as I can tell they only offer classic visa / mastercard unsecured cards, no fees. They do offer a secured card, but its got fees. They only offer their unsecured cards by invitation only.......so if you don't get a letter in the mail inviting you to apply you can't get one. What exactly on ones reports triggers them to send you an offer I don't know.

I don't think their current unsecured offerings are horrible, they just don't cater to those seeking rewards.

I bit the $700 bullet in 2010, when I lived in Indiana, but got mail in Columbus, Ohio. "I was at the stage where I was just stoked to get an approval."

I cancelled FPB two years later, with CB's help.

Never looked back.

They are useless.

I agree with you about FP. I never had them. I'm thankful I never bit.
