Hello CB!

I have a few questions pertaining to DOFD. I have read some prior threads about DOFD and felt I needed my own conversation as a new guy looking in. Advice is welcomed!

First, I have 5 accounts listed on all 3 bureaus that list no date for DOFD. Some even list N/A. All 5 accounts have at lease one month reported of 30 days and 3 accounts have 60 days late. These are not charge off's or bill JDB's, they are credit cards and personal loans that have a $0 balance and closed.

Second, once I establish DOFD, how do I determine when the account should be removed from all 3 bureaus? None of the 5 give a removal date from the CR.

Lastly, when I dispute as obsolete, does it just remove the one period of delinquency that is older than 7 years or the entire account from seven years after DOFD? I do have current delinquencies form 2010 and 2012 that are not yet ready to fall off on 4 of the accounts that actually went delinquent in 2008 and 2009 but were brought current.

thanks for any and all advice!

Folks can correct me here, but if they weren't chargeoffs, were never 90 days late, and were brought current and then closed (in good standing?) then the accounts aren't delinquent. Hence no DOFD being reported.

I think he is talking about removal of the late charges status... which would be 7 years from the date on which it occurred, I believe. but the account stays on the report for ten years, just not the derogatory information.

I am not dead sure on this so please correct me...

These are not charge off's or bill JDB's, they are credit cards and personal loans that have a $0 balance and closed. How long ago were these accounts opened? Do you remember? There should be a scheduled to fall off date somewhere. If not, try to see if you can find information on when these account were closed.

Second, once I establish DOFD, how do I determine when the account should be removed from all 3 bureaus? None of the 5 give a removal date from the CR. Once you find out the last date of activity you will then know when the 7 year mark is that they are set to age off.

This is tricky. If it is a closed account and it is approaching the 7 year mark, then the whole account will be removed if it close to being aged off. As far as the late payments go on old, closed accounts, I'm unsure if they age off too. Perhaps someone else can let you know.

thanks for any and all advice!

Also welcome to CB :)

Each late will age off once it hits 7 years and ve replaced with "ND" on your credit reports. As they age off, the accounts will become positive.

I read about it on here a lot but is this why it's not always a good idea to dispute since accounts can get deleted entirely...losing that positive account?

Exactly, especially if they are close to the 7 year mark. :good:

guys,

Thanks for the helpful tips.. Most of these accounts were closed in 2012 - 2014. Going to do the 623 method for the late payments. Hopefully I will gain some traction.

Any suggestions on how to work a 623 method with Navy Federal and USAA?

Thanks!
