Waited six months, scores are all in the 815-820 range, heavy usage during last quarter, but no dice this time around:

"We regret that we cannot approve your request for a credit limit increase at this time."

Guess I'll try again next month.

What reason did they give? After you find that out, you can see what to do.

I'll report back when the letter comes in the mail.

Same boilerplate denial for both cards. I don't believe I've hit the exposure limit with them, but I suppose it's possible. Utilization is something like 3% at the moment, new account are minimal and all have a few months on them, etc, etc. So we'll see.

Could be you are off on timing by a few days. Citi doesn't count months, they count days. And sometimes they don't count well.

Or sometimes they come up with weird stuff. When they do that, I wait another week and try again. Not only do they screw up math, they have the memory of a flea. :)

lol, that's precisely why I waited a few extra days. But not a bad idea at all regarding trying again in a week's time.

Official reason stated on the denial letters is too many new accounts.

I opened three new cards back in December 2015 (out of 21 total open and closed). AAOA is currently over 7.5 years.

Will try again in 2-4 weeks.

I got that before, too.

Give it a few weeks and try. They'll give up that booty. :)

I have 2 Citi cards.

When I click the link:

On the older one (1yo) the soft CLI language is there.

If I use the drop down to switch to the newer one, the soft language is replaced by HP phrasing.

I had to pay with a hard pull, but my Citi Dividends Visa that was opened on 02/2014 with a $3,000 limit (and I have never received an automatic increase), was increased to $15,000... which is what I asked for. I should have asked for me. :(

Have a Citi Double Cash which was opened at the end of October 2015 with a credit limit of 3700. I had a balance of 2000 on it and got a email saying that I was a good customer and they were increasing it to 5200 so Auto luv after 6 months.

I think Citi likes to torment you before giving CLI's.

I tried the soft pull luv button and was denied because they wanted extra information from a hard pull so did not go thru with it. then given 1500 extra on my double cash a few days later then yesterday I tried my thank you preferred the same thing happened got 1500, went from 10000 to 11500 but got a denial email from the soft pull then today get a email saying congrats we increased your limit .

so Double Cash went from 3700 to 5200 and thank you preferred went from 10000 to 11500 ,weird..

I have a few questions about Citi CLI/CL transfers and Hard Pulls.

I currently have 3 open cards, with $26k overall Citi exposure. My end goal is to have a single $50k card, as a prybar and to Utilize without affecting my Score.

I have a $25k Amex, so I'm hoping they will try to match the other cards to that.

EQ Fico is 744 as of last Citi update.

Can I do as follows:

1. Request a CLI on multiple cards (They are giving the SP language, but it seems like taking a hard pull will give bigger limits)

2. If I get $50k overall, take another HP to transfer it to one card.

Any chance this will work?

And will all these pulls be merged at the end of the day by the CB (EQ)?

In theory that may work although there are some recent reports that Citi has slowed combos, especially if one of the cards is Citi Forward. Don't worry about inquiries.

So you can get 3 CLI's in one day?

I'm still worried a tiny bit about INQs, as I have a thin file and churn pretty often.

In that case INQs still have a small effect, no?

Haven't gotten back to this thread as promptly as planned.

Decline reason: Too many recently opened accounts.

I'm calling b.s. and interestingly enough a couple weeks after the two declined requests, they tacked on an 'auto' CLI on one card for 2k. I recently tried again on the other and they bumped by 3k. Slowly, but surely.

The story so far:

Did 2 soft increases, got $10k more between both. 3rd card had the soft pull language, but was instantly denied.

Went for a HP on 2 cards, one was increased to $25k, 2nd denied due to "max total CL for current income" (low 6 figures).

I then took a 3rd hard pull to move most of the credit to a single card, leaving me now with a total exposure of $45.5k (soo close!), with the biggest card having $41k.

Hopefully the pulls will combine, I'll find out when credit karma updates next week.

Now, some questions:

Does Citi do random CLD's if util goes up significantly now?

How long do I need to wait to ask for a CLI on the 3rd card (the Insta-denied one)?

Is there a way to have the 2nd CLI denial reconsidered?

Citi is my oldest (21 years, my very first ever credit card that has survived it all) and largest only behind Lowe's ($10,230). Hoping to grow it some more and have it be a real prybar card going forward. Now that my consolidation has gone through and my Citi account was the last to post its $0 balance, I went ahead and did this SP CLI request, but was denied for too high balances, too many accounts with balances, etc. They reference data from April, so it looks like their SP CLI system runs on 2-month old data. I'll wait 2 months and try again. Not looking to burn a HP right now.

My Thankyou Preferred has always given me the soft pull CLI language, but they only approve those every 6 months. I got one right at the 6 month mark, and need to wait until August to get a 2nd one.

Meanwhile, from the time the account was opened until now my reports went from having 4-5 baddies each (paid medical collections, 1 7 year old CO) to zero baddies, and scores rose from mid 600 to mid/high 700s even after all the new accounts. Hopefully that will make the 2nd CLI more impressive. First one was only $1500 increase.

It appears their soft pull CLI's will never be substantial...they're just little gifts. If you want a big limit, you'll need to call in an take a hard.

Also, more on topic, does transferring credit reset the 6 month SP clock?

So I tried the link and I got the SP language. Tried and denied. Reason was "Can't in crease limit at this time because I've already had a recent increase must be at least 6mos better limit changes. ( another interesting note after this request I got an auto increase on one of my cards, coincidence perhaps?)

My question to this is for the 6mo clock IS it for this one individual card or does a SP request on one card effect all card

It's for each specific card. If card A is at the 6-month anniversary today, you can request today. If B is up next week, then you can request again next week for B.
