I have looked around a lot and

Some people are confusing buying and loading. You aren't trying to load a card at Walgreen's. You should be buying VGCs to liquidate somewhere else.

Being new to buying GC's I am confused.

I saw something that said Vanila but did not see a card in the pack...

This is what I get at Walgreens. Then I load Serve at Family Dollar with it.

I definitely did not see this card at the Walgreens I have been to. I will go to a different store tomorrow.

I don't think you actually need to have an activated cellular device. In other words, no cell plan involved. Just buy a used iPhone 6 or newer, set up Apple Pay, meet spend, sell used iPhone. Can anyone confirm?

Ok, I'll bite, I'd like to play this game for some free money.

This would be an example of me dipping a tender toe into the "MS* game".

My question is thus, I have an 15 year old Discover card, ("Cashback Bonus" on both the physical card and on Discover's website).

Obviously, this card is not eligible for this promotion. In fact, I only use this card each month for a small charge, followed by PIF before closing to get a free FICO 8 from TU each month.

Should I ask Discover to PC this account to a product that qualifies for this promotion?

Will they do this? From my reading of this thread I won't get any "Double Cash Years", (but an easy $1,000 is still worth doing).

All personal Discover cards are eligible for the Apple pay 10% on 10K promo. Only business cards are excluded. You don't have to do anything. So you can use your current card to get the first Apple Pay 1k. Then if that was fun, apply for a second Discover card (converting your current card will NOT make it eligible for double cash at this point). Apply for the Discover IT or IT Miles card and your app status will say you need to call for more info and when you call the number listed they will ask if you want to PC your current card (NO, won't get double cash) or apply for a new card (YES, double cash promo on new cards). Then they will ask if you want to end up with one card or two cards and if you want two cards how do you want to split your current credit limit between the two cards (old vs. new). Since your current card is 15 years old you may want to keep it open and simply move most of it's credit limit to the new card for your planned spend because you will be using the new card for the next 12 months to earn double cash.

Thanks for this Tyra.

"Should" work. NFC/BT is the tech doing the work. Also wifi available in some stores.

That was my thinking as well....and if the iPhone wanted some kind of data connection I could just connect it to the Note 5 in my pocket. I'll research this method more today and make a decision.

With my low Disco limit I'd probably need to make sure I could push several thousand to the card then draw down the credit balance via my purchases. Something along those lines. I don't want to stretch it out any longer than I absolutely have to. Obviously worth some effort on this one though. :good:

I stopped by at Walgreens and they have few varieties and each of them have a monthly fee and reloading fee. One of them can only be bought with cash and all of them are capped with $500 initial load.

Walgreens has its own card and this is better then other prepaid cards.

Monthly fee waived if we have 30+ transactions or it is $2.95 per month.. yikes...

I signed up for the Walgreen's Balance Financial card online to avoid scrutiny at Target where I would load my RB.

I used that card to load OV's at Walgreen's for about 4 months. Went quite well for a while. I pushed about 3K a month on it.

Balance Financial shut me down for liquidating too rapidly and wanted me to promise not to do it again before reactivating the account.

I chose to just move on.

I didn't read through the entire thread, but I just saw mention of VGCs.

I already have an iPhone 6, so I upgraded to iOS 9 and added my Discover card. Says right on the screen "Get 10% Cashback Bonus on up to $10K of in-store purchases using your card in Apple Pay till 12/31/15. Excludes gift cards." I imagine this mean VGCs are excluded? Or is there some way that they don't know you are purchasing a VGC? Maybe a dumb question. Just curious!

I doubt it's trackable. I'll know on the 27th.

That is what I am thinking...how would they know if you bought a CG or something else. I didn't think they got details of your transaction. That being said, might be smart to add in another item to throw off the math just in case.

That's what I was thinking as well, but wasn't sure. I mean, I doubt if you purchased a toothbrush that they would know, so why would they know if you purchased a VGC at Walgreens?

Well that's new and exciting. For data points: neither mine nor spouse accounts showed that when adding Discover to Apple Pay and I read the whole T&C looking for exclusions. Added mine to AP on 9/16, added hers to AP this morning 8am.

I'll wait til the 27th then before I go off and buy gift cards. ;) I would like to get some not for M$ (I'm nowhere near doing that yet), but just because Apple Pay is not accepted everywhere, so I can use the gift cards in places that Apple Pay is not accepted.

It has the exclusion on my screen as well. That being said, I am still going to push through the $10k, and I have every intention of fighting for the 10% on my first $2k of gift cards that were purchased before the exclusion was put in place if they do limit it.

Using the links provided, that promotional language is not on the pages I'm viewing from my Android tablet.

Did they finally realize the clusterf*ck about to be unleashed?

I don't see how they could track the purchases. No level 3 transaction reporting..."a purchase is a purchase".

Grabbing my popcorn to watch Disco bankrupt themselves....either from the fallout of the promo or having to pull out of the promo entirely for fear of what's about to happen. I really want worst case scenario here....but I hope we get paid.

I take they might follow Diners Club, except in this case, they're running out of radio.
