I disputed a Portfolio account on my report. They have changed the name from Portfolio Recovery to Capital One. All the contact information is still Portfolio Recovery. Is this legal?

Hi and welcome to Credit Boards Lionheart.

Are you looking at hard copies?

If not, order hard copies from the credit reporting agencies first.

Online reports can be wildly innacurate.

Also look at the date of first delinquincy to make sure it is reporting correctly.

How old is the account?

How far away from the state statute of limitations?

A word of caution, if the alleged debt has not passed the state statute of limitations, you run the real risk of getting sued when disputing debts inside the SOL.

When I noticed the name change on the online report, I wasn't sure if it was a legal procedure.

I have ordered the hard copies. SOL ends 1/2016.

Less than 6 months until SOL expires, and the name was changed back to the OC, eh?

How much is the outstanding balance on the account?
