Sears Report Code 25

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, I have a question about Sears, but first a little history. I had a Sears card sometime back in the early 90's and defaulted around 95. The reasons for default are typical- young, immature, and had no business having a credit card. Fast forward 20 years later and my credit is impeccable with a high paying job. I plan on buying a new house in the next year and wanted to buy some appliances. So I thought what the hell, I'll apply for a Sears card and see what happens. I applied and received a Report Code 25. Does this mean I was declined because of my past or do they just need to verify some information? Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I just want to know if it's worth calling or would I be wasting my time. Thank's in advance for your input.

Was the Sears you defaulted upon an "original" Sears store card? I had one about the same time you did and it went bad shortly after yours did (~1997). My CRs originally just read "Sears Roebuck Credit" and later ones read "Citibank for Sears".

2011 I bought a new washer/dryer and fridge from Sears, was offered 12 months no interest on Sears card - applied and received the Sears Mastercard.

Thank's for the replies. It seems you can only apply for the Sears Credit Card online and the MasterCard must be applied for in the store. I may just wait.

You already took the hard inq. hit, you should call. Sounds like they just want to verify info.

My original sears card from 1997 was 13'd in 2007. It changed over to a citibank MC at some point. I'm still wary about trying for a citi card.

Well I got my denial letter in the mail today. Denied because they needed to verify my residence. So I called the number on the back of the letter- gave the gentleman my new address, answered a few questions- BAM!- approved for $3000.00. Sears store card. So in my experience, they don't black-list. Now I can't wait to get another collection letter in the mail from NCO Financial claiming that Sears is willing to settle the debt from 1997.

I just applied about 8:00 pm this evening and got same message and at the top of the message it said "unable to process your application" and to call the number, he just verified my address and verified my phone number then sent me a text and asked me to give him the code that he text and then he put me on hold and approved for $2300. I have been trying to get a Sears card since 18 years old and never never been able to get one and today at 41 years old I said I got nothing to loose and BOOM!! Still can't believe it!! Have to go into the store to use account before my card comes, excited about tomorrow:-)
