Well, I opened a CSP in January with more than 5 new accounts in the previous 10 months. But that was then and this is now I guess.

I echo other sentiments that I hope this doesn't include business cards....I had really been eyeing an Ink Plus before the end of the year, just hadn't gotten there yet.

This would be a troubling trend. Please start a new thread if there are any shut downs. I don't want to lose my UR balance.....

I just made my fourth (and final I guess) recon call to the business line at Chase. They did not say 5 accounts in 24 months but they have definitly gotten stricter. Each time they just bring up my new personal accounts and want to see them age. My newest Chase card is 6 months old but have a couple others since then. Oldest Chase card is 3 yr+.

The last analyst did say they have a somewhat new policy eliminating moving personal credit limits to business lines. YMMV.

I will just get the point BULLSH*T! Chase has no policy of only 5 new cards in 24 months.

Right, so the denial letter that DW received that specifically said too many new accounts in the last 24 months with NO other reasons listed was BS? And I guess Pam's letter was as well...and people on FW are just making it up too.

The only thing that is BS is your disbelief...

And for those asking, it isn't five Chase accounts, it is 5 accounts period, as DW doesn't have 5 Chase accounts.

I was denied for the Freedom for the same reason, it was a bummer. Tried recon twice and I got completely stonewalled. They pulled EX + EQ too. Really lame they needed to double pull me when they were going to flat auto denial regardless. Not very happy with Chase.

I could have gotten it in April when I got my CSP, but saw a rumor of $200 bonus returning in June and held off. I was really excited that my patience had paid off, had zero worry that my app would be denied or at least approvable via recon. Wrong :\

I have 10 accounts, and the oldest (!) one is Jan '14, if you count D*. I'd be waiting a long time if I waited until I had < 5 new accounts in the last 2 years.

Edit: to clarify, I was not told the 5 accounts figure firsthand. Only "too many." That is the only reason given in the letter, the only reason when I recon'd the first time, and the only reason when I recon'd the second time.

Many are still getting approved for new Chase personal cards with 5 new accounts within the last 6 months. I am not saying anyone getting the letter is BS but what is in the letter is BS. I recall many respected members telling me the same thing when you get denied and the letter says to many inquires.

Also there's been some debate over whether this inclcues co branded cards. Some people are saying no, but I am seeing a lot of people getting denied for co branded cards also (same too many new accounts reason). Business cards too.

Chase is unfriendly right now. I doubt the policy is permanent though so we'll just have to wait

Chase is notorious for shutting accounts down.

I was approved for a Marriot Siggy with about a gah-jillion new cards...

...so I'm in Rorer and shifty's camp: I'm not buying this as a hard fast rule.

This started about a few weeks ago, and it doesn't apply to co-branded cards. It applies to cards like CSP, Freedom, and Slate.

Okay, I'll bite.

Q: Why would Chase protect the Slate card like that.

Same here. If they want to give you a card. They will. Even if you have 20 new accounts.

The Marriott and Hyatt cards seem to have become the looses cards lately. And Hyatt with fairly high starting limits. Or maybe it's just me noticing that.

I've given up on my SW Business card. Maybe I should app a hotel card for science. (Or just cause it's fun. 😀)

I have about 10 new cards in the past 24 months, and I just got approved for the Hyatt card earlier today.

EDIT; nevermind, just read further and saw it doesn't apply to co-branded cards :P

Just to add a data point, I was just approved for the Slate card 3 weeks ago and I have waaaaaay over 5 new cards in the last 2 years.

If this is true, I will never get the CSP or Freedom since there is no way I'll go 2 years without applying for new cards. Just hope if this is a new policy they nevery apply it to their cobranded cards.

Are you suggesting they've been able to put together the first observation, then the GPs, and the following science in three weeks?
