Hello,

I had two copays (100.00 total) for medical services due to a hospital. Unfortunately, this particular hospital never consistently sends a bill. I know I should have kept track of it, but there are months in between the service and billing ,when I receive it. They refuse to let me pay at the time of service, because, "the provider is from a different office." I received a call last week from a CA (FirstSource Advantage), I immediately called the OC (hospital) and paid the entire balance. The same week, I received a letter from FirstSource Advantage regarding the debt. I called the Hospital billing department about removing the account from collections, and they stated that I should call the CA and explain. Which seemed reasonable... until I found the threads here. I have used MyFico to pull my current TransUnion report and it doesn't reflect any collection as of yet. I read the Why Chat HIPAA instructions, and it seems I screwed up by paying the bill to the OC in my panic.

I managed to destroy my credit in college, and I've put in so much effort to raise my score to it's current level. Can anyone offer my some advice as to what my options are at this point? Can I modify a HIPPA letter for my situation, or is it too late? Thank you for any advice.

Don't worry, you are in time to prevent it from reporting ( unless it is reporting to Eq and Ex.)

What was the date of medical service??

Follow the guides:

http://www.whychat.5u.com/GUIDEBOOK.html

If it is NOT reporting on ANY of your reports ( and you have no other medical accounts reporting)

then you need to send this to the CA, IMMEDIATELY

http://whychat.5u.com/ltrcavalhipaa.html

( this will allow you to respond within the 30 days)

Meantime, once you have opted out and deleted old addresses, recheck your reports to see if the account is NOW reporting as a "paid" collection, if it is, you will have to dispute it with the HIPAA initial dispute

Why Chat,

Thank you for the prompt reply, and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. The services were from September 2014 and Janaury 2015. I sent out the letter in your second link to the CA this morning via CM. The 30 day period for the CA to respond will end on June 17th. I will advise you if I receive any reply.

I used annualcreditreport.com and checked EX. The only negatives I see are from a student loan account that was closed in 2012 (my father offered to pay it for me. He just waited 2-4 months in between and didn't mention it to me. Lesson learned.) and a single late payment on a capital one card from 2008. EX lists a rather large amount of incorrect variations of my current address, as well as old addresses. You mentioned that I should remove these. Do I do that using the CRA online dispute system? Is there any issue with starting a dispute to the delete addresses, while I'm dealing with this CA?
