So I got app drunk after a few approvals and put in an app for chase. I checked the prequalifer and they gave me a recommendation. I applied, was denied for my bankruptcy.

Thanks to CB I called for recon. I got a nice gentleman who recommended approval to secondary underwriting. I called today and they said they needed further ID verification so I answered a bunch of LN questions. Then she said that I would need to send in my DL and a utility bill but couldn't tell me if I'd been approved. Just said I'd get a letter or a card in the mail in 7 - 10 days.

Did I just waste 45 minutes on hold and answering questions for a rejection?

If they are asking for ID you will probably be approved. They can't tell you yrs or no since its contingent on your verification

You have a chance. Go for it!

I've had good experiences with Chase UWs. They are very willing to look at the big picture and give approvals if it looks like you're heading the right direction, even if your scores are poor or you have garbage on your reports.

The first underwriter was very very nice and understanding. He asked what I had done to ensure that it didn't happen again. He asked what had happened to lead up to the BK. He thought a divorce and job loss in the same time period made sense. I have one negative on experian that he asked about. My scores are 650 -680 depending on the day. He said he recommended approval and was passing it to secondary underwriting so I was hopeful.

Then all these extra hoops have me annoyed and nervous. I just sent in the docs so hopefully its all good.

I was approved for my first Chase card, a Freedom with a $4500 CL, with a 660. If you made it this far, I bet you'll get approved.

There is an old adage, it takes a thief, to catch a thief...

Chase has a long and inglorious history of "misdeeds" and corporate disregard for the law BUT, they have the best(worst?) legal counsel, in addition to being entrenched members of the "good ol' boys" club.

So, their vetting process can be ridiculous.

My Freedom card took a month for approval because they found my DW, kept her maiden name, as an AU "suspicious" despite having her SSN!

I keep being told what a great lender they are, in my ignorance, I just don't see it...

Absolutely spot on, "it takes a thief, to catch a thief."

I'd jump through flaming hoops to get back in with Chase.

GW,

Why?

I just don't get it!

Their APRs are meh, no colossal CLs, promo APRs & rewards aren't better than many others. The ONLY substantial benefit seems to be moving CLs across cards.

AND they seem to do CLDs or close accounts unannounced any old time.

Everyone does CLD's if you misbehave. It's not just Chase and they don't do it for nothing.

Chase is a good bank. Moving CL's is also a huge benefit.

My BK was filed in '08 and D/C in '09. My chase mortgage was included in the BK. No chase cards were burned. I'm hopeful they wouldn't waste their time asking for documents but we shall see. I sent them. It seems like a lot of hoops. Barclays unceremoniously declined my recon right up front.

Flaming hoops if they'll approve me for one of their travel cards w/a decent limit. They have great sign up bonuses. Unfortunately, I just can't pass go. No idea why. Different bs excuse everytime.

1. Their APRs are meh

-who cares? they're known for some of the best rewards cards

2. no colossal CLs

-Incorrect

3. promo APRs & rewards aren't better than many others

-Incorrect

4. Moving CLs

-hassle free benefit

5. they seem to do CLDs or close accounts unannounced any old time

-All majors impose AA

Honestly, I just need more available credits. I'd like to buffer my util. My balances run anywhere from 0 -10K at any given moment because I carry my own expenses for work travel. It would be nice for my utl not to be maxed out based on expense reimbursement times which vary. Travel rewards are a bonus for sure but I have anwhere from an epic amount to an infinite amount of air/hotel/car points at any given time from work. It sucks when all of my meager credit is used on on the day the card reports. nothing says big hit like 95% util. a week later it might be 0%. I was so strategic with it during the mortgage process but I would like to not have that much stress about it. I'm shooting for total revolving credit to be about 20K so I'm never more than 50% util. I'm at about 10K right now. $4K of that is secured. One of my secured cards just unsecured so I used that to up the limit on my other secured card.

Who cares about APRs? :dntknw: If you PIF, APR doesn't matter, and rewards cards tend to have higher APRs.

They do give out large CLs, and it is easy to build a large CL by combining/moving limits.

They have a lot of the best rewards cards out there. In your opinion, who offers more and better rewards cards?

AA may be taken by any creditor.

Take a gander at the CPdatabase?

AA because you open new accounts??? Chase appears to be notorious for this

Lots of creditors take AA. Citi, BOA and Barclays go on that list.

The CP database doesn't have a lot of the higher limit approvals in general. There are plenty of $25K+ approvals here though, and it's possible to build a 6 figure CL with Chase.

Chase sucks because their CSR's suck, in general. They are a huge company. Hang up and call again. Or, wait. Eventually they'll come around. But are they frustrating to deal with? Yes. Are they loyal to their customers? No.

If you expect loyalty or recognition from Chase, you're only going to get offended.
