I'd say all those places have multiple cameras. Maybe some evening news features, even if they don't get caught

 

I know it's only a matter of time for each of us.

 

Thank goodness we all know to use CCs vs. DCs. 6k from my checking account would well.....eff me hard.

One on the benefits off compulsively checking my transactions every day over my first cup of coffee was catching a fraudster's overnight Shakeology purchase last month. The card they cloned has only been used for Amazon subscription for the last 6 months so there's no telling how long they sat on the info...

 

Fingers crossed they get your claim closed quickly and painlessly!

My CU made me file a police report to get $25 back from a national level fraudster...

 

When I provided said CU with a copy of an identical bogus transaction posted online from another victim I was told by my CU not to send another individuals financial info to them or I could get in trouble.

I had this happen with my debit card once. Weirder than weird -- someone got ahold of the number somehow and used it to buy Gevalia coffee.....and ship it to my house. With someone else's very Eastern European sounding name. I saw the charge pending online before the coffee came. I had never heard of Gevalia at the time. I called them and explained that I saw the charge but had never heard of them and they were great about it -- refunded me right away. A few days later, the coffee arrived -- coffee maker and a ton of boxes of coffee. They said to just keep it with their apologies. How often does someone steal your card info and use it to send you a free gift? lol

Actually, I got pretty lucky with this. My better half and I got robbed in South America. They just about cleared out her checking account before we got the bank on the phone. Reason #7,642 why I keep a small, local bank despite opening other accounts at big banks for the bonuses. They immediately put the money back in her account pending the outcome of an investigation. Not sure what they investigated, but a few months later we got a letter saying it was all good in the hood. They also bent the policy that account holders couldn't transfer money to another person's account so we could move her money into my account so we could have access to cash. We were grateful!

It's actually pretty easy once someone has the card info. They just program your info onto any other plastic card with a magnetic stripe. Your account could be drained by someone swiping a reprogrammed hotel key card.

Yep, though the pros will stamp out a card that has the right bank on it and looks legit. The ones that go for the big scores do that. Had a DC cloned and, after a test charge, the crooks made a clone card and went to town in Australia for over 5k but not quite as much as the OP. They also bought gold jewelry. Easy to fence. I've never even been to AU. Caught it by accident when I logged onto my bank acct. Charges were still pending.

 

They didn't do anything. Filled out a fraud declaration for the bank and they credited me. Card was apparently skimmed at an LA restaurant. This was before ebay type dark web made info ubiquitous-and cheap. After that I used cash at all eateries.AT least until I jumped back in to the credit pool.
