Well, this is it. After long enough time sitting on the pot, I finally decided to s**t. I subscribed to my fico last month and have my online reports and scores. Fortunately, after reading this forum I learned to be skeptical of online credit reports and called each bureau to request that reports get mailed out. I hate having to wait, but I know it will be worth it. I currently have two new revolving accounts. I know that many members will frown upon my decision to open accounts with both Credit One Bank and Fingerhut, but my scores have all gone up from acquiring them and that is what I care most about. I truly look forward to improving my credit. My quality of life. And I also hope this will help others in similar future situations. Let it begin...

Instead of putting money towards FICO scores and sub prime cards like Credit One, save your money for a secured card.

SDFCU has a secured CC with no credit check, no AF, rewards and a minimum deposit starting at $250.

https://www.sdfcu.org/emv-creditcards

DCU has a secured CC with no AF starting at $500. The minimum FICO to be approved is EQ04 580.

https://www.dcu.org/loans/visa-secured.html

Cap1 has a secured CC where they qualify you with a deposit of $49, $99 or $200.

I would say your 1st couple decisions were not very good... sorry to be harsh, but entirely true!

You can get a 3 reports for FREE once a year thanks to the Fed Gov.

AND you should NOT have opened that CreditOne card... the last person I saw had a 75$ annual fee AND 36% interest. That's the worst of the worst.

I started my journey with CapONE secured. $50 gets you $200 AND it will work you up to once of there normal cards, THEN you get your $50 back.

I wouldn't worry about FICO until you see your reports, FREE reports... and even then I would prob just get a WalMart card for the FREE FICO.

These are all things I have done, and there is no question that THEY WORK.

Lets hope your next series of decisions are better, or youll be digging yourself deeper.

DO NOT SPEND $$$$ ON CREDIT REPAIR!! Rule # 1 in MY book.

Do these CU's check EWS and Chexsystems? I'm currently in a dispute to get my only baddie removed.

It's okay. I'm here to learn and need to be told when I'm screwing up. I payed for these reports with the strategic notion in mind that the CRA's will only have 30 days to settle a dispute instead of the 45 days that are allotted with free reports.

OP, take things slowly and it will all work out. I too opened a credit one card and it helped me get to a point where things allowed me to get other good cards. The other advice you were given is best, but you're by no means heading down the complete wrong path. Good luck and be diligent in all your moves.

Thanks. I needed that. lol I know that mistakes will be made along the way, but I trust the awesome members on this forum will help me to minimize them. Opening those accounts may not have been the best decisions but they've really helped my FICO, so far. I'm going to check my scores in a minute and let you guys know where I'm at.

SDFCU and DCU both use chex. FWIW I was able to join both with a paid chex entry.

Good luck! We're starting our journey at the same time - I'm waiting on my hard copies, as well. As for the card choice error, don't be too discouraged, what's done is done. Check out JayB27's "My Journey" thread. He started with the same mistakes, and is proof that it can still work. And his enthusiasm is contagious!!

I LIKE JayB27. He's been very encouraging! Don't be too down on yourself, OP. I have three, count em, three small CL Cap1 cards. My Merrick, formerly Hooters, and Credit One cards are my only CLs > (or =) $1k. And Chase will not budge from the $400 Amazon line I have. I won't close my Merrick and Credit One cards until I have something better to replace them with. Ideally, NFCU will give me one card that I can use to replace both of those. In other words, one larger CL. That's really all I would need.

It's ok to pay for CR in this case. It's worth the $. Credit repair costs money in the form of time, stamps, paper, CMRR, etc.

Well all 3 reports are officially in! Time to get to work. Any advice getting started?

As I mentioned earlier, I have three CO and four CA. All of which except for one is past my states SOL. Also several student loan late pays of 90 and 120 days.

If they're past SOL for your state, then you're insulated from lawsuit, but if they're not 7 years old yet, they can still report. At that point, I would recommend DV'ing all the CA's and if the CO's are part of those CA's then you can possibly get both managed at the same time.

Don't offer Pay for Delete (PFD) on anything unless they absolutely confirm in writing that all debts will be cancelled, all information removed from your CR's and the debt will not be resold to any other party, relabeled, relicensed, transferred, anything. Period.

With that said, since you have the paper reports, feel free to post the information here with account #'s and any information related to you redacted. But knowin who you are fighting can help everyone guide you through the channels that will benefit you the most.

I'll be sure to check out Jay B27's thread! I love reading success stories. In MUCH anticipation of receiving my reports, I've began reading psychdoc's seminar. Amazing stuff. Do those methods still work today?

Although my path was not perfect, I have overcome some mistakes. Had I made many more, that may not be the case.

As it stands I did set myself back, and would love to change a few things.

Good luck on your journey.

Can I ask if youre going to take a swing at some decent cards now or if you want to share any stories if you already did?

Great Job!!! :good:

You twisted my words in your quote in the tagline, but im in a good mood and will let you go. Your little picture isnt sitting still at the moment, and I am happy. Maybe you have the POTENTIAL to be a DG, but youve got some work to do! :)
