About 4 years ago, my husband and I pulled our heads out of the sand and realized we had over $80,000 in credit card debt. We signed up with a credit counseling company (Credability, which is now Clearpoint). Some of the accounts were late when we started. We have missed a few payments over the years, but, for the most part, we have paid $1,674 monthly towards these cards. As of today, we owe just over $7,000 and are going to be able to pay them all off in the next few weeks.

We both have negative comments on our credit reports for some of these late accounts. What can we do to get them off asap?

Thanks!

congrats on the hard work.

just need a better picture on your current state.

are these accounts you've been paying still open?

what notations do they have exactly?

have they been reporting as late all this time or only 4+ years ago?

Thanks for your replies!

ManofB, "Goodwill letters," like Dear Bank of America, Since we have recently paid our account (XXXXXXXXX) off, would you kindly remove any reporting on our account to all credit bureaus? Or, something else?

Shifter, Thanks for the congrats! It HAS been hard work, and I am so pleased to be close to the end of it. These are accounts that are closed, but that we are paying off. I'm not sure of the exact notations, but I think they are something like "late 90 days." Some are recent, some are older.

A mortgage broker with whom we were talking suggested we dispute them and that they would likely let them go.

You want to keep the account on your report, but remove the delinquency marks? If you don't mind me asking, who are the creditors? This can vary by creditor and also how high up you can get in the customer service ladder.
