Happy New Year's to all my fellow CBers:

Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. I had a quick question, I have read threads on D* and in everything I got a little confused. With regards to an AU card, IF the AU had their OWN AMEX in say 1993 would they be able to use that as a D* date if added on as an AU? I know that it is said AU D* is dead, however, I kinda got turned around in my readings, I think that it is dead with regards to the MAIN CC Acct Holder having D* and the AU trying to get the SAME D* that really wasn't theirs. I am assuming that if the AU had a potential D* of 1993, that AMEX would honor it regardless of the date on the new acct, am I completely off here?

Also, if AMEX did allow it, what might the impact be on the AU's AAOA. would it truly effect it? Or since it's only an AU card does it factor differently?

As always, thanks for all your help and guidance, I have some success stories to share as soon as I get caught up with school.

Amex will always D* to your own old account, but Amex AUs always report as new accounts, regardless of D*.

Wow, really? Even if Primary Acct Holder has a D* of 1993 and the AU also has a D* of 1993, (they each had a joint account back in 1993) AMEX wouldn't use the 1993 date for the AU? I was hoping when DW applies here in the next 90 days ( as we PM'd about before the holidays) that I might be able to get an AU card with a D* of 1993, lol.

You can get whatever date you want on the card, but an AU will always report as a new account.

Really. My MSD is in 1998. My wife's is in 2013, when she was added as an AU to one of my cards. I was added as an AU to her account when it was opened in 2014 and the account reports as opened in 2014 for me. It's backdated to 2013 for her.

Really excited to see this thread.

I have a Delta SkyMiles Amex issued in 2014. Back in 1989, I was issued an Amex Green charge card while I was in college, I was the account holder (not an AU). I proceeded to charge it up and default on it. Paid or settled the account in 1993 or so, just before buying my first house.

What are the chances that they still have a record of my original account and would amend my "member since" year? And would this make its way to my CR?

Sorry if this is a newbie question...thnx

100 % chance.<----Edited to add, 99 % chance. Nothing is guaranteed.

This is the actual benefit of Amex. Many times they auto-D* in this type of situation. But you will undoubtedly should get it on request.

Just curious. There are more finding there way back into the forgiving arms of AmEx every day and just wondered how the scenario would play out when ...

Member: "Excuse me, could you adjust my MSD to 1958? My account number was 354 ......... ."

CSR: "Sure. That's the card where you burned us for $25,000, right? No problem."

Laugh of the day for me right there! Kudos

In all likelihood they will find data from the 80's on.

I was just curious. Aside from needing awfully thick skin to go through that scenario without having to later kick your dog, I'm wondering if they might now just say ...

CSR: "Oh, wait ... just HTF did you get a new American Express Card? I'll fix that mistake."

I would not be surprised. At all.

So I called Amex last night after reading this thread in an attempt to reestablish my member since date (D*, is that what we call that?).

I had a green charge account in college (1988 or so). Several years later (in 1994), my wife added me to her account as an AU.

The very friendly representative I spoke with did not immediately find my 1988 account, but did find the 1994. She told me that she would amend my MSD to 1994.

Is that all there is to it? Should I expect the new MSD to be reflected once they report again? (As of this morning, my MSD is still showing 2014 on my online account portal).

I applied for Amex Gold and Everyday on Saturday and on Sunday requested that they change the "member since" date back to the 80s when I had a Green card. The online rep couldn't go back that far, but sent it to research, and today my account reflects a member date of 1989. So it doesn't take them very long to research it. If they've already issued you a card showing 2015, you have to wait 10 days after account opening to request a replacement card, but no biggie.

Usually the online profile is updated the next day.
