I'm considering calling/writing the 3 CRA's to have old addresses removed due to a serious fear of ID Theft. I've read all the threads about good and bad (old baddies removed, old good standing accounts removed in process, etc.) just wanted some experiences from some of you on how it worked out for you if you did it. Did your credit score get affected, and to what degree?

If this sounds like a newbie question, well, it is. :D

If there are good closed accounts that are attached to an address you want removed, try contacting those creditors and updating your address.

I've never had any accounts removed by simply removing an address, whether it is tied to the TL or not. YMMV. Risk/reward issue.

Don't worry about asking newbie questions, that is what CB is for.

What is it you're trying to do, get negatives removed?

Well yea, its not any secret around here, removing negative TL's.

It is recommended to remove any old addresses possible. If that means losing an old TL AND losing negative info, I do it all day long.

What negatives do you have reporting Jon?

I'm also worried about ID theft.

EX: An old $17k Medical Collection. Others: old medical collections and an old Paid WF Credit Card that was settled. And an old Midland/T-Mobile Account.

Don't let the amounts stop you from trying to remove these things. Depending how old, and what type of OC healthcare provider, these things can be removed VERY easily.

Have you been to the medical forum and presented your situation to Why Chat?

Well I can assure you, the SOL on medical debt is 4 years, except in those states where it is 3. The only exception is charitable hospitals which can sometimes extend longer due to tax dollars covering the cost of some uninsured.

So if it is over that, you are likely not to be sued.

Going to the medical forum and getting advice has NO RISK. Why Chat will give you honest advice as to move forward or not.

Please, go post in there: http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showforum=39

JonE:

I lost one positive closed tradeline on TU after removing old addresses. I'm not sure if this was the reason. The TL was closed in 01/2006, so should have stayed until 01/2016. It was worth the risk for me, due to other negatives at that address.

JayB27:

Could you please provide a source that says medical debt SOL is no more than 4 years?

I've never been able to verify this.
