Thank you for starting this topic Funkie, it has mad me realize that I have a lot of work left to do (reality check).

1. Work on remaining judgements on all 3 cra's.

2. 2 remaining CO's, Cap 1 and HSBC.

3. 5 paid collections all attached to one of the paid Judgements.

4. On a more positive note, keep all accounts at a $0 balance except for 1 ($2 balance).

5. Graduate my local CU card to unsecured in February.

6. CLI on my NFCU M/C and NavChek in a few months.

7. Contine reading and learning on CreditBoards everyday.

8. Make it to 700!

Thanks all for making 2014 a great year for my rebuilding progress, if not for everyone here I would still be at the bottom.

Thanks. I had hoped it would help, as I know it will help me stay on track.

Funkie and all,

I have plans to keep striving to improve my credit worthiness in the coming year. In January of this year I started my credit repair/rebuilding journey and have had great progress in my opinion. The year started with credit scores in the low 600 range to today where I have solid 700's across the board. My files were loaded with derogs ranging from liens, judgments, and med collections that really had been ignored by me for a few years. A promotion at work prompted me to do a reality check that started me on my journey. What a mess I was and I feared my company would be doing a background check on this role I was about to be offered. (BTW - they didn't and I did get the role, but thank God it made me get real about taking care of my personal finances! Even if I am 50 yrs old!)

In the last 12 months all of the derogs have either rolled off my files or have been resolved in some other other fashion. I think patience was the key and patience is really needed when dealing with Med Collections. You all can find my story in WhyChats Medical Collections forum on CB. I can't thank WhyChat and others enough for the help and encouragement to get that accomplished! (An aside - also all TU/EQ Inqs clean. Only EX has 11 with 4 due to roll off in the early spring - B* experts really helped thanks)

For 2015 I have the basic goal of getting my scores into High 700s or even to 800 and if I take care of business, I think I have a legit shot! For credit card action see below where I started from and what I plan to do in 2015 with credit. Feedback most welcome.

  • CapOne $500
  • Cortrust $250
  • CreditOne $750

  • Barclays Rewards MC $6,500
  • CapOne 5178 $2,250
  • CapOne QS 5178 $1,000
  • Chase Amazon $6,000
  • Chase Freedom $6,000
  • Citi AAAdvantage $7,000
  • Discover It $1,200
  • HomeDepot Consumer $9,000
  • JC Penney $4,000
  • NFCU Cash Rewards $18,000
  • NFCU Flagship $15,000
  • PayPal Extras $1,500

  • Total $152,150
  • (I came a long way and added 148K in TL and doesn't inlcude $15K CLOC af NFCU)

2015 Action Plan for Credit Cards

Close both CapOne Cards if I can’t consolidate CL to QS. These guys don’t like me and I really don’t like them.

Close Barclay’s US Air Card and move CL to Rewards MC unless someone sees a better plan or knows a reason to keep it open. Already have the bonus miles added to my Dividend account.

Amex Skymiles – 3X CLI in Feb

Close Discover It – not sure I will get love from them having had a low SL.

Open CSP and hopefully get an offer from Chase first – will be late in 2015 as I had 3 Chase cards in 2014. If I am approved I will likely close my Freedom and move my CL over to the CSP.

• I have 2 AMEX cards that are backdated to 1983 helping my overall AAOA (5 Years) at this time. I want to add 2 more in the near future. My target card is the SPG and I get monthly offers from them as I stay in their properties on a monthly basis. Not sure what other AMEX I might try for to round out the MSD play.

• Try to convert my Chase United MPlus Explorer to the Club version. I know it’s a higher AF but I really need the club access. I fly 99% on United as that’s where my status is these days. Not sure if it’s a simple call to Chase or what, but I will try.

Close JC Penney – I have SD’d this card since it carries a 26.99% APR – really? It is one or my older lines that has open date of 2008. Closing it won’t harm my AAOA and will keep the DW from potentially using it on a whim.

PayPal Extras MC – close this one. I really messed up here as it was a pop-up offer on my account dashboard. Wish I hadn’t applied and I really don’t like Synchrony.

• Keep after CLIs with NFCU.

• Enjoy the heck out of my hidden TL with Diner’s Club.

• After all of this completed I think it will have been a great 2015 on the revolving credit front!

Thanks for letting me share and document my plan, Oldtimer

Wow. This is a great story. Congrats on your success so far. It sounds like you have a great plan too.

The only thing I would suggest is to get a no AF card with each of the issuers that you want to be involved with long term. That way, you can help build you AAOA and not have to pay a lot of fees later on just to keep the history. It will help you churn cards later on if you want to get more into the points/miles/cash back games.

Thanks for sharing!!

2014 was an amazing year!!!! I started the year with 1 credit card with a 1800.00 limit and I am ending with 5 cards and 23k total limits.

My goal is to garden for 2 years and let all my inquires fall off (I have 9)

Clean up my report!!! I have 2 baddies (one reporting 2x)

I hope to be debt free by the end of 2015 so I can start 2016 free and clear.

My goal for 2015 is working with my husband to get his credit reports cleaned up. He has 13 baddies that won't be falling off until 2018. I've encouraged him to start reading up on CB so he understands the process and what we're up against.

My credit report is pretty thin these days. The baddies I had from my youth have all fell off besides one *dam you Midland* which will fall off in the summer of 2015. I'm debating on just letting that fall off or disputing it.. I'm thinking the former.

For 2014 I've gotten 2 credit cards: First Progress (secured @$300 in August) and Barclay Rewards ($1000 in Dec) I'm going to work on using those so that I get good CLI during 2015.

Getting rid of my unpaid repo has been an ongoing challenge for over a year now but I intend to keep on looking for ways to deal with it. That's the only unpaid baddie that I have and it's what keeping me in the 690 - 700 range (not that I really care that much about my FICOs at this point).

Hey funkiehouse,

What have you been doing to dispute your unpaid repo. I have a similar situation with an unpaid repo from Santander that the dealership pretty much falsified documents to get me the loan, and I have been in the rut about how to even begin to dispute it or hire a lawyer to handle it.

I've done everything but sue them. I've tried Whychat's method, letters, complaints and emails. It's just something I'm stuck with.

No real solid plans.

I just paid off all my debt to hit my goal for 1/1/15, have 1% UTI down from 12%.

I went from $0 in credit to about 45k in credit in 10 months.

Now I just wanna age them, and get ready for 2016. I'm thinking mortgage / investment properties

might be my target for then.

But, prices are dropping hard in the area I'm looking at, so I might just pull the trigger in 2015 on that

and having low utilization and solid history will play a big part in that push.

I somehow missed the story before the picture that you posted later. I'll be the first in line on the day your shop opens. :D

Sweet. We're hoping for either a Huntington Beach, Redondo Beach or Santa Monica location if all works out. We may be priced out of doing everything we want to do because of initial startup funds and higher lease prices per SqF in those areas. We'll see how it goes. We have a few years to get it all figured out.

Huntington would be preferable...I don't bother driving to SM our the Redondo beach Beer Pier anymore.

You could pull that off in Irvine, Tustin and all over OC.

Yeah OC is where we eventually want to live. I think it would do well in Huntington but not near the water. The weekends would do pretty well but I think the bulk will come from the lunch business crowd. There are some good inland spots that I have seen. I think Laguna Beach would be a great fit but it would need to be smaller due to real estate costs.

I was born in South Laguna Beach. Very nice, very expensive. Not a lot of a real business-like crowd you are looking at for that place.

Irvine, Newport, Tustin, Costa Mesa (North Side), Santa Ana (by the Civic Center or South Coast plaza biz district), Orange (by the City/UCI Med Center) those are the places that pop in to my mind. Unless you go North County like Brea and Fullerton...

I'm in Irvine/NB and don't eat out that much, but recently grabbed a sandwich at the Mustard Cafe on Newport Coast while friends were staying at the nearby Marriott. I was amazed how lousy the sandwich was considering the high-income clientele of the area. You'd think high-income customers paying 10 dollars for a sandwich would complain about stale bread and dry, flavorless sandwiches. Panera is much, much better. Back in New England where I grew up, good deli sandwiches were everywhere, but here in Irvine/NB, no! North Laguna Beach could really use something good too. My MIL has a timeshare in North Laguna so when she's there, we'd always like to grab a good lunch within walking distance. The Cottage is just about it, and it's not too good.

I live 2 blocks from that center. Mustard Cafe sucks. Only there because of people who get coffee and baked goods because they don't want to support the Starbucks...and Starbucks coffee is better.

The Newport Coast pizza sucks, that Sharkeys grill sucks, the sushi place sucks.

Next time you're there, drop down Newport Coast Drive to PCH, hang a left to Crystal Cove. Good breakfast/sandwich place, Javiers (where I am typing this from), Bar Method, Z Pizza, Bear Flag Fish Co, and a good Indian food restaurant. Today you can even see San Clemente Island.

I decided I'm going to close Walmart and Amazon along with CreditOne. I'll keep CareCredit around until I get another prime card.

The two Synch cards aren't my oldest accounts and with their toy limits it won't hurt much. Wally is paid off so I can do it tomorrow if I wanted to (and just might) Amazon will be soon.

My goals.

Learn how to read and understand the credit report and how it effects me and my credit.

Learn how to dispute and fight off baddies and of course items that are not correct on my report which I am finding many things that are.

Start repair and rebuild process once I get to a point I can start cleaning up the reports.

Issue is I have three very hard to get rid of jdb to deal with according to what I have read here.

Calvary, Midland and Portfolio. I can see most of my time being spent on these three as they have made many people miserable in dealing with them.

Try to get my scores over 500, then 600 by the end of 2015 if not before.

Keep plugging away at the 50 total baddies on the 3 majors is my main goal but I also want to set my goal high and work hard to get repairing started and once comfortable with that

work on learning on the rebuild, who to go to to get starter credit to get some positives reporting.

Right now I have a secured NFCU and a NFCU car loan to report for positives. NFCU wont unsecure the card for some reason. Thinking it is the credit score.

My goal/plan is to just increase my CLs. Since none of my GW letters helped in removing any 30 lates, guess I am stuck with them.

Will probably only start working on the CLIs mid year + though. Need my scores to go up and accounts to age.

Need to get the Repo on my EX fixed too. Contacted the CU about getting it fixed a couple of months ago, and haven't heard anything about it since. So i'm assuming they've done nothing.

Will pull my 3 free CRs soon and then take them into the CU.

My goal for 2015 is to not apply for anything. I like getting cards for the signup bonuses. Always a new shinny object to get my attention. I'm going to see how long I can go...it's like "the contest" from that Seinfeld episode.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I just asked Care Credit for a CLI and they popped me from 800 bucks to 15k. I should have taken Shifty's advice and asked for 35k. I asked for 15k like a chump.

Bodes well for my plan. I hope to open a max of 4 new cards this year. I hope to quadruple my avl credit this year.

Keep sending the GW letters once a week until they get tired of you and give in.
