Go talk to a local credit union. They are great places to get rebuilder cards. Try to find one that graduates to an unsecured card in 12-18 months.

Your bigger concern right now should be your collection accounts. You should start a post and see if we can help you get rid of some of those to get your reports looking better so you can get those approvals. What ever you do don't go racking up a bunch of inquires at this stage. It will make it harder to get good cards if we can get rid of the baddies on your reports.

Also stay away from First Premier and Credit One Bank.

doe! Just got approved and card on the way for first premier

Don't activate. Burn it and call them ASAP to cancel. Not trying to tell you what to do; just giving a strong warning!! If you desperately need it then just watch it like a hawk.

This is the WORST thing you will do credit wise.... Trust me... DO NOT ACTIVATE THAT CARD.... Call and cancel the application.... And I mean ASAP... You will thank me later...

I need it. From my readings most people just dont know the way it works and know, that you have to pay a little to play

I'm aware of all the fees and I'm ok with it. Payments will be made on time and in full each month

The card is already on the way but I have to pay $75 before i can access the credit on the card. Starts out with $300 credit limit I can access

I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF BUT TO CHIME IN, THESE GUYS AND GALS ARE RIGHT, STAY TF AWAY FROM FP CCs. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CONSUMERS AT ALL. I'M STILL FIGHTING A CHARGE OFF FROM 2009. YOU HAVE WAY BETTER OPTIONS OUT THERE. I RATHER YOU DO A SHOPPING CART TRICK THANTO GO WITH THESE GUYS. *SORRY ABOUT THE ALL CAPS, THIS IS JUST REALLY IMPORTANT FOR SOMEONE WITH YOUNG CREDIT AND SMALL CREDIT KNOWLEDGE

Too late, I already activated it and paid my fee

I see good and bad reviews. Most are bad from people that had no clue when their bill was due and about the fees. I got to pay to play, once i get my score up then i can play ball and get better cards

I will pay my bill days before the due dute. I have no worries

This and finger hut is my first revolving accoun tin a decade.

The good reviews are written by the company employees

We will see within the next few months how it goes.... I cant see how it can go bad as long as I pay my bill, stay under my credit limit atleast for the first year. a few fees are tackled on after the first year. I will report back

People are trying to help you but you keep pushing forward with your head down. There's a lot of collective wisdom on CB.

Really? I wrote a few good reviews of them back when (I thought) they were the only card I could get. To whom do I submit my demand for backpay?

FP CAN be a beneficial step towards better credit. It's not one I'd recommend now that I've read a few thousand CB posts, and it's certainly not one of the best tools in the box, but it's not entirely useless.

Everybody has his/her desperate moment when rebuilding.

My desperate moment got me Cap1(300, no AF), CreditCare(800) and Wally(150) last November. After Wally approved me for ONLY 150, I was like WTF? Told myself I need to stop before FP or CreditZero approve me for $50 with $95 AF. Now I am pondering a way to get at least a $5,000 CC. It will probably be a secured card but It will definitely be $5000 or more. Otherwise no more Credit Cards for me. No time for baby steps.

Forget it Jay. Save your breath. Can't save every kitty in the pound.

Someone else will come along who wants to learn and you can use that opportunity to pay it forward.

What do you propose I do if I desperately need a credit card and I do not have any money for a secured card deposit?

I would suggest learning about money /finance in general This is a classic example of the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer. ..... Don't "pay" to play the game .... You are playing the wrong game...... They need to be paying you for your business and for you keeping them in business. For example low interest and rewards cards

Invest that 75 dollars or save it until you can put it on a secured card ...... When you are desperate for money you cannot afford to be just giving away the money you do have

I skipped all the crap in this thread, but CapOne secured is a good card. $50 gets you $200. Use that for a year and BAM! you will be able to get a real card AND get your $50 back!

This is what I did.

EDIT: WOW 36% interest and a HUGE fee?? EFFFF THAT!!!!

I just read this last page. dang it..

ALSO, I see this "pay to play" crap being spoken a few times and some think that's rea life? NO WAY... I PIF, get cards with NO annual fees, and the secured cards are deposits.. that you GET BACK!

Im not paying ANYONES fees. The cards I use now are 0% and/or paid in full. I don't have $75 dollars to never get back.... do you?

I was high 500's not even a year ago now im 699. I listened and learned and still ask questions here weekly.

OP - That's the worst card Ive ever seen. Point Blank BAM!! that just happened!

Red flag number one... If you really "need" the card.. you are prolonging the problem.

Number 2 flag backs up number 1. You don't have any money. a CC is just going to make that issue worse.

No one "needs" a CC with a 300 dollar limit.

if you "need" a CC to buy something or pay a bill because a CC is the only way, get a prepaid card.

  • 4 months later...

So far 1st premier is working great for me. Love it and the customer service. Fees Im not worried about about, I blow $95 in a night lol... I just needed a card. Will probably close it down after 2 years

I even paid 2 weeks late and they waive all the fees and everything. Monthly interest is only about $5, I pay the bill in full before statement date.. Is what is is right now, I needed a quick credit card
