You can use this link to apply for the AMEX HHonors Surpass and get an extra 20k in points with no additional spend (still $3k in 3 months) until Feb 28, 2015. This may be a good option for those going to apply in Jan or for those doing the AMEX end of year experiment or if you just want to be safe and apply now to establish a 2014 date with AMEX. This card also gives you GOLD status for great upgrades and free Wifi, which can sometimes be $20/night.

AF is the same as the 60k link on the main AMEX page ($75) and is also not waived the first year.

If you recently got this card with the 60k bonus, go on AMEX chat and ask for the extra 20k. Provide this link to them, if they need proof that the offer is out there. Usually <90 days from the time your account was opened.

Good luck and happy applying!!

I'm a long-time Hilton Diamond member ... and just wanted to say Gold benefits are just about as good as Diamond so you do get value there. BUT ... points have really been devalued over the last few years.

$75 AF to get 80,000 points means you're paying $.0009375 per point - but that's not what really counts ... it's the value when you redeem.

As an example - NYC hotels in late January are $194/night or 70,000 points ... so there you have a valuation of $.0027 per point.

Another example - Hilton Waikiki Beach in late January is $303/night or 114,840 points ... valuation $.0026 per point.

There are "sales" during the year where you can make your points do more - definitely worth watching for those.

You are spot on. How you redeem these points makes a huge difference. We were able to get 2 nights out of my 60k points in Redondo Beach, CA. Nothing too fancy but otherwise it would have been $223/night. I was also able to talk them into free parking with the Gold status that saved $10/day. This was during the July 4th weekend this year.

I think if you stay 2-3 times a year the real value in this card is the Gold status.

Don't forget to factor in all of the taxes when you calculate redemption value.

  • 2 weeks later...

cv91915 - last time I redeemed a free night, the bill came in under the door at $0 - the reward redemption included all of the local taxes & fees (this was at a Doubletree)... hopefully that will stay the same!

Awesome! Just received approval for new AMEX charge account and was looking for the right revolver for the end of year experiment. Now to wait until 3am on the 1st to try the link... Thank You!

Congrats!! Did you get the second card?

I just stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cupertino, CA over the last 2 days. With the Gold I got free breakfast both days ($13.95 per day) and you get a coupon for an additional person each day if you have someone with you. That's $28 per day savings for breakfast for 2. Also the Wifi was free. Wifi is free in some of their hotels but some of the bigger ones in the big cities can be upwards of $20/day and Gold will get it for free. Plus it was nice being placed on the top floor where the ceilings were vaulted which made the room bigger.

If you get the card make sure to sign into your Hilton rewards account and apply the preferences you want for each type of hotel in Hilton chain. For locations that have breakfast you get to choose from a free breakfast or 750-1000 bonus points. I think the breakfast has way more value. I didn't know about this at first and missed out on free breakfast for two days for me and the wife. You can make up most if not all of the AF in just 2 days at a hotel.

ffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu**********kkkkkkkkkkk

Received this card on the 60k offer a few weeks ago....

My luck.

Call them and reference the offer and ask them to give you the additional 20K.

I will try.

Good luck with it! :good:

Yep. Do an online chat and provide the link. Shouldn't be a problem.

That is his point. You have to add the taxes to the total savings and value per point when doing the math.

Success!! Revolver Approved and Card's estimated arrival is "24 to 72 business hours." Also Confirmed the T&C included the correct 80,000 bonus, as I had to call (and then get called back) for the final Approval, due to self-initiated Fraud Alert on File.

Will definitely update my Preferences for each Hilton family hotel. Going with Hilton property for the first Reservation next week, followed by Embassy Suites later this month. Gotta get workin' on the $3k spend plan in 3 months lol.

Congrats!!! I really like having this card. It works for my travel needs.

Hilton automated email (to AMEX email address) received TODAY indicated upgrade to Gold status. That was fast!. I had just signed for the Card from the UPS driver literally minutes earlier lol.

Revolver is confirmed active with MSD 2014 and I immediately applied it to our upcoming Reservations.

So to recap, that's:

$2,020 spend (pre-tax) on upcoming Hilton Reservation (#1)

+ 12x Bonus Points (Card benefit)

+ 25% Gold Bonus (to Base Points)

+ Hilton Double Points Offer (Room Rate was slightly higher)

+ 500 Bonus Points (On-line Book & AMEX Payment)

$692 spend on Disney Reservation* (#2 and #3) x 2

+ 3x Bonus Points

* I think this earning method includes tax for the points calculation...

$119 spend on Embassy Reservation (#4)

+ 12x Bonus Points

+ 25% Gold Bonus

+ 500 Bonus Points (Book & Pay)

+ 80k Bonus. Will report back when it posts. We stay maybe 6 nights annually on average with the Hilton family of properties, so this is an Awesome deal! :good:
