Hello everyone. Happy Holidays. I received an invitation to apply for the Chase Slate card. Applied and received a decline. The decline is based on my TU, per the decline letter. I had no baddies, until Ocwen started reporting a mortgage that I lost in 2008, and stating that I was late in 2013, but now its current. I don't know if I should call chase and if i do, I don't know what to say. any advice?

One or more accounts are not paid as agreed

Length of time since oldest credit card was opened is too short

Length of time since newest account was opened is too short

Too many accounts opened in the past 12 months.

it never hurts to call recon. You have nothing to lose. Just be prepared to discuss the denial reasons and why you are looking to get the Slate card. It would appear you have a lot of new accounts, why is that? Why did you lose the mortgage? Is it reported as current on an updated TU report? If so you can say it is a reporting error that has been fixed and ask them to re-run your TU (no biggie since those can be easily fixed...)

Have a clear and succinct story. Only answer what what asked. If you have trouble thinking on your feet, take notes before hand.

Hey CTSoXFaN

I just wanted to let you know that I called and did my recon and i was sooooooo close to being approved. Twice i was put on hold. The call made me feel better. In the end i was declined because of my gap of having no credit between 2006 and now until I found this site last year. I told the guy because of the crisis, I went cash but it didn't get me over. The guy told me to make a couple more payments on my Barclays and try again next year. Thanks for the advice. Merry Christmas!!!

HUCA. Hang Up, Call Again. I called Chase to recon 4 times until they approved my Freedom app.

I called Chase and spoke to a senior credit analyst. Says she cant overturn decision, because of the Ocwen mortgage reporting that I was delinquent in October of 2013 and a collection for 5 years ago for 850.00 for cable. Hung up the phone and walked to the mailbox and received the letter from TU that the items have been removed. Called Chase today and they said they can not pull my credit again for another 30 days and they do not do soft pulls. Should i re apply or call them back in 30 days. Regardless its another hard pull. Any advice.

Sounds like you have no choice to wait. I guess it depends on how bad you want the card.

If they say they won't pull your credit again maybe do another online app when the baddies clear and see if thats true. It could get you another hard with no success so its your call.
