Buying a house and doing a massive renovation has cost me a boatload of cash.

Now the wife unit wants to go furniture shopping. I'm baroque. Any idea where I can get some decent furniture that won't cost me my other kidney?

Ok Chugs...

All the good furniture used to be made in North Carolina.

Then the Chinese took over in Dongguan.

The North Carolina guys bitched and got a tariff imposed on the Chinese furniture. So the rich Chinese just moved factories to Indonesia and Vietnam.

Same rich Chinese own the factories, but there are no tariffs on Vietnamese or Indonesian furniture. And furniture only requires two things...wood and labor. So the rich Chinese actually moved their factories to a place with no tariffs, closer to their natural resource supply chain, and to a place with lower labor pressures. Smart fellows huh? And the bright guys from North Carolina don't complain because its out of bad China now...even though the same Chinese guys collect the cash.

So, the moral of the story is, you should impress your wife and go furniture shopping by yourself in Vietnam and Indonesia. I would suggest you hub through Manila...and spend a couple days there to get over the jet lag...you know, get acclimated. Maybe a couple days in Boracay?

On to Indo - Java, Sumatra, Bali. From there, on to Vietnam - HCM and Da Nang.

You will find gorgeous furniture. I am sure your wife will be astounded by your diligence/efforts.

Yeah, that's if she doesn't slash and burn my hard wood furnishings.

I hit 759 with one card over 30%, and several cards reporting balances.

I find it odd, that when my D* Amex reported, my score went up a bit. Yet about a week later without more changes it went up about 40 more points. In fact, any other changes were negative in terms of score. Added new account and inquiry, Barclays.

Is this rebucketing perhaps? I also only cleaned my reports completely less than a month ago.

I am happy regardless and wonder what score is next, when another D* account reports, and my balances update.

That + the extra age are sure signs.

Dig dig dig.

Plant plant plant.

So, added US Airways, Amex everyday (16 years D*), NASA FCU CC, crap1 and Discover. BofA said no. Failed cli on NRA card.

After Amex said yes, figured I'd try others that went bad in the past (BofA, Discover, and crap1).

I have 7 inquiries on EX (rental agency, switch to Verizon, failed FNB and BofA, and crap1 hit all three plus a couple others), 5 on EQ, and 3 on TU.

B* is started. Need to freeze EX (yeah, I know. Never did it) and sit on my hands!

  • 3 weeks later...

There will be a lot of app'ing going on the next few days,

unless you are part of it, you will have a case of itchy finger.

Just remember, age is a part of the equation to. I know this doesn't help,

but I tried. Enjoy watching all the approvals.

And to those grabbing new cards, Congrats.

Yes, Farming is hard work. Research, reading, apping, reconning, groveling, fighting.

Can't app 2 BofA cards in one day? Screw that

Can't get a BofA CLI in under 6 months? Screw that

Can't get huge Lowes CLI without heavy spend? Screw that

Wishy wash D* is dead? Screw that

Cant B* EX? Screw that

Can't recon 4 times and get a different answer? Screw that

Gardening is sitting on your flowers and doing nothing. Ive never been that person. Ill never be that person. Even if it's to my detriment. If you find me on my flowers doing nothing, get a body bag and radio a dustoff cause I'm dead...

I think this will be the 2nd CB Commercial I make that goes viral. Thanks, K-Man! :clapping:

There are all the success stories about new cards, with huge limits. Which is great and the reason we are here.

But how about those of you who really take pride in your ability to Garden.

I know I can't do it very well, but interested in those who can. I am interested in finding out what it takes to get near 850.

What types of AAOA and other factors it takes for the strong profiles sought after here on CB.

You should be proud of your willpower, and this is a thread to boast about that.

In the interest of science...What built your profile the way it is today?

This was the first post of the thread. It really wasn't about help gardening, more as it was about what gardening TL's does for scores.

At some point we all garden, no matter what ANYONE says.

If not, you end up like SCM.

It only appears that I'm "gardening" because I can't find any card with worthwhile sign up bonuses. If I could churn constantly, I'd be making a lot of buttah.

If you have D* Amex, you can app tons of crap, just keep churning the Amex.

I'm over just going after the big limit cards save a couple like Navy, BofA Amex etc I want to build.

Churning rewards cards is my focus, as the rewards are worth serious cash.

Citi has 4 AA cards, Amex has 2 Delta (screw delta, use skyteam partners), several United cards.

And I have access to several EIN/TIN, churning biz cards that don't even show up on your reports...that's 2015 for me

I've reached the point where a year of Amazon Prime is all it takes to tickle my trout.

That's what happens. You get to the poiny where you keep adding useless cards or you wait for the right opportunities to come along...aka gardening.

I'm going to garden by churning Amex cards when my reports are clean.

Starting out, gardening can be very important. With clean reports and an old Amex MSD, not as much.
