Buying a house and doing a massive renovation has cost me a boatload of cash.

Now the wife unit wants to go furniture shopping. I'm baroque. Any idea where I can get some decent furniture that won't cost me my other kidney?

Wayfair.com -- subscribe to their daily sales email. You'll get free shipping on pretty much everything, and they'll hook you up with coupons in the early days to develop the fever. They give you 3% rewards on every purchase (used for future purchase) that you don't have to pay for like you do on Overstock.com. And their customer service is excellent. I've had 2 items that needed to be returned due to damage or defect, and they sent a new one and told me to discard or donate the initially shipped item. Needless to say, I have 2 of those items now -- both are accent furniture pieces -- since they were perfectly usable...just not flawless. And they often send you a request to review an item you purchased in exchange for a $5 Rewards credit. I've racked up a free purchase or 2 in rewards balances over the past couple of years.

I tried adding two more emo's, it said I had hit the limit of them for a post. Since there were a littering in the quoting. Never seen that before.

I tried. The wifey gave me an earful. Similar results when I offered to buy a couple cheap end tables from Ikea for $15 each.

Ok Chugs...

All the good furniture used to be made in North Carolina.

Then the Chinese took over in Dongguan.

The North Carolina guys bitched and got a tariff imposed on the Chinese furniture. So the rich Chinese just moved factories to Indonesia and Vietnam.

Same rich Chinese own the factories, but there are no tariffs on Vietnamese or Indonesian furniture. And furniture only requires two things...wood and labor. So the rich Chinese actually moved their factories to a place with no tariffs, closer to their natural resource supply chain, and to a place with lower labor pressures. Smart fellows huh? And the bright guys from North Carolina don't complain because its out of bad China now...even though the same Chinese guys collect the cash.

So, the moral of the story is, you should impress your wife and go furniture shopping by yourself in Vietnam and Indonesia. I would suggest you hub through Manila...and spend a couple days there to get over the jet lag...you know, get acclimated. Maybe a couple days in Boracay?

On to Indo - Java, Sumatra, Bali. From there, on to Vietnam - HCM and Da Nang.

You will find gorgeous furniture. I am sure your wife will be astounded by your diligence/efforts.

Especially things that are penicillin-resistant.

Bacteria are nothing...its those pesky viruses you have to watch out for...they could put a serious damper so to speak on a guys furniture shopping expedition.
