I'm wondering if they even actually have a standard of its just their random system farts that allow people to slip through the crack (no pun intended). There seems to be no real rhyme or reason why some stay on the blacklist forever and others do not.

What would be interesting is seeing how their credit decision system works. And what actually causes the old derogatory AmEx account in their books to be rehabilitated?

What the CSR sees your old account and thanks you for being a member for a zillion years, do they see that old account still has poop stains on it?

I had a 40k CO settled for 12k or so

and they let me back in

after about 8 years.

They lost way more on me than some of you.

When did they let you back in?

A year or so ago AmEx got smacked upside the head by banking regulators. Part of the reason was for doing stuff like promising to forgive the remaining portion of a debt that was settled, but in spite of that forgiveness still blacklisting them. It was during this time period quite a few folks here were falling off the blacklist, too, it seems.

When I inquired a while back, someone in the exec office told me that

1) BK in excess of 10K results in permanent blacklist. Don't know how permanent that may be as conditions change. Although the guy was not explicitly requesting, he suggested that perhaps paying that down to under 10K might result in better luck. (I IIB Amex for 13K)

2) The above applies to personal credit accounts. Business cards would be treated differently. He stated that I would have more luck by applying for one of their business cards. I applied twice after the 10-yr mark and was still denied. Blacklisted now for 10.5 yrs.

What about non-BK losses over $10k? Should be the same if not worse.

Didn't apply to me so I didn't think to ask.

Update for the last time with amex, i called recon one more time on 11-14, i told the rep i had a included amex 20 years ago in my filing, is there any hope in getting back with amex, the rep said Absolutely never, once amex is included in a bk you can never coming back,. time to move on ......

That not true. If you pay them back then your off the blacklist. Amex cant tell you that if you Bk'd them because that can be construed as trying to collect a debt that was Bk'd.

It goes without saying. I think everybody knows that already.

I burned Amex for business cards for about $13k and never had personal ones. It would be nice to know what the blacklist is for that.
