Applied last night and got the app pending notice. Called this morning and the security dept needed to verify me. Then she said she needed to transfer me because my card limit wasn't enough to cover the requested balance transfers. Got to the other analyst and she really didn't want to budge, so I thanked her and let it go. I called back and chatted with a different analyst about paying down balances, lower APR, blahdy, blahdy, blah, and she bumped it to cover all my requested transfers and to still have credit available!!!! So stinkin excited!!!!!!

Very good! I wish I had thought to call immediately for a CLI when I got approved a few weeks ago. That was the second card in my app spree so they would never give me a CLI at this point now that they can see all of the new cards reporting! I'm not carrying any balances but will still try for a CLI when all of the new cards are 6 months old if the the luv button doesn't give it to me.

Yeah, I wouldn't have even known to do it, but I found the recon numbers and a note that said call immediately if the app was pending. They really do ask you questions about your credit history. I had to explain my high utilization and my debt pay down plan as well as why I felt I needed this new account. My biggest hurdle was one of my cards has a $12k limit and it's nearly maxed, but I told them it was law school tuition and the only way for me to avoid student loans. I was prepared though, thanks to the info here in the boards!!

Hope you didn't point that out... :D

Barclays is great. I went from 4k - 15k in 7 months. They do like balances, as that means they are making money. Lots of people talk about them not liking new accounts after them...but...I find that not to be true, I have about 10 accounts in the past 6 months since I opened a card with them. The auto CLI has currently been trending at the 7th month mark for most people.

That's good to know Tator. I think I will take the combo approach, with paying may 3x or 4x the min, like Mendelssohn said, but also making sure to carry a balance that seems to benefit them and me. I'm just stoked because it's my first major step towards a new era in my credit journey.

It took me three years to raise my scores from the mid 400's to the low/mid 700's and I was able to buy my first home. Then a couple years later I reached my goal of being approved for not one but two Amex cards. One of which was for $12k. And then I unexpectedly had to buy a new car and was able to get the car I wanted at a tier 2 rate that was crazy with my pick of lenders. But now, its time for me to get out of my credit builder mode and swim confidently in the maintenance and strong profile mode. I am now focused on paying down debt and aiming for the 800 club.

My new goal is a score of 822 (odd number, but it has a deeper meaning).

If you're carrying a 0% BT offer, that's fine. Just don't start paying them interest in the hopes of an auto CLI.

Barclays can be generous at times, but there's no predicting it. They have been very generous with me this year. One of the best ways to get a high limit card is to combine limits with them. At this point last year, I had 1 card with a $1500 limit with them. Now I have over $22K on 4 cards with them. The limits will eventually be consolidated into 1 card.

If it's not too much for you to explain (type out), what was your approach for the Barclays cards you opened (i.e. time between apps and score range, if you recall)?

Your experience with them and new accounts is good information. I have been a little concerned because I've opened 7 accounts and a car loan in the 30 days since I got their card. 2 of the cards are Amex that are backdated so I'm counting on them not noticing those 2!

June 2013 I was approved for the Rewards MC with a $1500 limit. I was hoping for an auto CLI which never came. My TU at the time was in the low 600s.

Jan 2014 I hit the CLI button and was denied. I was able to recon a CLI to $4500. TU was in the 640s at the time.

June 2014 I was approved for the Arrival+ with a TU of 697. I was only approved for $2500, so I moved $3500 from my Rewards MC to make a $6000 CL and a $1000 limit on the Rewards MC.

July 2014 I was motivated by the pre-merger easy signup bonus on the US Airways card and was instantly approved for $5000. TU was 699.

Sep 2014 I hit the CLI button on the Arrival+ ($6000 to $8550) and US Airways $5000 to $10K). IIRC I broke 700 on TU this month.

Oct 2014 I was motivated by the 50K bonus and was approved for the Miles & More MC with a limit of $2500. TU was 702.

I am planning on finishing the $5K spend on the Miles & More MC in 1 month and then hitting the CLI button to see if I get anything. Usage does NOT always play a part in CLIs though. I requested $10K on my Arrival+ just after putting the bonus spend on that card and only got $2550 more. The US Airways card got doubled, adding $5K (I also requested $10K), after less than 2 billing cycles, paying the AF and $10 in purchases.

I'm closing my Rewards MC next June/July and moving the limit to the M&M. I'm also downgradinf the A+ to the A and moving all but $1K of both the A and US Air cards to my M&M. Those 2 cards will be closed at the 2 year mark, and I will move the remaining $2K to the M&M.

I have also opened a lot of new accounts this year, and Barclays has not seemed to care. That experience may not be the norm, but that's how they've been for me.

That is amazing and your scores were in line with where I am right now. I am putting together a plan as I get things in order and really aim to grow my limits and full profile. I just need to keep taking notes from here and sharing my successes along the way. Thanks so much for sharing. This will help me a great deal as I continue to sort things out.
