First off congrats on your success!!! :yahoo::yes2:

Second off, if you are serious, that is a great find!!!!

no lie. I actually found it by accident. There is a wall that comes out from the original wall. The seller told me that there is a fireplace mantle behind the wall. In the new wall there are a set of shelves built in. The bottom 2 shelves go about a foot back behind the wall so I was looking to see if there was a way that I could see the mantle. I was curious if it is something that we could restore and have a nice feature to the room. Then I saw the little yellow container tucked into the corner. At first I thought it was like mouse poison, I slowly picked it up and shook it. I could tell right away what it was. I peaked into it but didn't see the denom. I opened the lid and threw it up into the air.

Man that is some good sh!t right there!!! I love it!

Congrats!!!!

Today I was at the house removing 2 walls that were paneling. I was hoping to find a hidden container but no luck. However I did uncover nice woodwork from early part of the century that was part of the staircase that is similar to this but ours is much more detailed. It needs restored though.

Paneling is making a comeback. :P

I was actually ok with the paneling. It was painted and didn't look to bad. However, I will give you 1 guess on who was not ok with it.

Yes. Well. Good thing one of you was blessed with taste. :P

The fact that the money isn't all face up and to the right makes my stomach churn!

Congrats on the find, but what do you do when someone comes back for it???

haha, about 10 years ago I was making a business deposit of approx 10k in all cash. The teller refused to take it because it wasn't all organized. I was so mad, I called the branch manager when I got back and threatened to take our business elsewhere. I was running a 6 million a year business so I am pretty sure it was an account he didn't want to lose in a small town. I was never hassled again after that.

Agreed, I was thinking the same thing.

Once again, I was thinking the same thing... That money is newer, it's not like it had been there for a long time. What do you plan to tell the previous homeowner if he comes to you and asks for the money back?

I am not sure how the laws work but I would assume that anything left in the house after closing belongs to the new owners. If he came back to ask for it, then we would have some major problems since he died in January.

I have some major OCD when it comes to organizing my work area but for some weird reason money doesn't bother me at all when it is facing all directions. If there were 5s or 10s in there as well It wouldn't bother me to have them all mixed together either.

ADDITION TO THE OP:

One thing that I failed to mention is payments. During my process I read that you should NEVER pay a JDB or CA after SOL is out. During my repair I did not pay out a single dollar. Now I was out of SOL on everything so I wasn't risking a lawsuit.

I also sued 1 JDB and 1 lawfirm. So not only did I have a judgment removed but I sued the company that had the default judgment.

Anyone that feels they havea violation you should talk to a lawyer. They may take a huge chunk but it is basically free money.

When my dad died, at first my wife couldn't throw his things away fast enough. I told her that he liked to stash money and hide it in things. I told her we were going to throw 99% of his crap away (it was junk), we just had to do it slowly. Everything had to be gone through with a fine toothed comb. Well, she waited till I went to work, and got busy. Hells Bells, full speed ahead! Do you think she threw a lot of money away?

There were about ten people who moved into my alley the next day. They lived in tents and went through my garbage. They weren't the "homeless type". When I brought a bag of trash out (real trash, like kitchen garbage), fist fights would ensue. They were like a group of sharks swimming around a boat, waiting to go on a feeding frenzy. People rode in on bicycles from other states. About a month later, they moved on. I'm sure my wife knows that she did something really dumb.

I pulled $300 in cash out of his car, while she bitched at me that I was wasting my time. "Just throw that junk away", she cried. Yes, real crying. Even if the cash was there, it was still a waste of my time.

It was funny how things went full circle. After pops retired, he found a large amount of money in the garbage. He camped out at that site for weeks (it was in another country, while he was on vacation), He used to love to tell that story of what he found in that thrash. I'm sure someone else is telling a story about what I threw out as well.

OCD? Don't even get me started on that... I there was a $50 in that, I would have freaked out. $50's screw everything up. Why can't the government get rid of them all together?

As for the ownership of the money? It was an asset belonging to his estate. An unknown asset, but an asset none-the-less. Sometimes we need to do the right thing, even when no one else knows.

Thank you for sharing. Like you I spend 4-5hrs, sometimes more a day reading and working on my credit in hopes to buy our first home next summer. I am amazed at this site and I wish I had found this site before I wasted so much time on another site which got me no where. This site has helped me take charge of my credit and I have gotten so much fixed on it in just a few weeks (all old addresses off, 4 deletions on mine and 3 deletions on my husbands). I hope to write a post like yours soon! Congrats and I hope you're enjoying the new house!

If you only have one 50 drop a ten or two fives on it. I know how you feel though I knew one guy who always went to the teller and took out 50s just to *Admin removes vulgarity* with me. In the end though money is money.
