In addition to reporting at statement date, it seems Chase is making additional credit bureau updates when you bring your account to zero.

My statement cycled on the 12th and they reported a $400 balance.

Paid the $400 on the 15th and today they reported again with a $0 balance. It's the second time that Chase has done that with me.

Not sure if the threshold is $0 or not. Maybe next cycle I'll try and see if they update by paying off 50% soon after statement date.

This is well documented in many threads.

They always immediately report 0 balance.

Didn't happen for me :(

Before my first payment was due on my new United card, the statement date kept bouncing around online. They seemed to not be able to come to some sort of decision on when it would cut ...

Anyway, I had it marked on my calendar for the wrong day .. and so the balance reported.

When I realized the statement had cut (about 2 weeks before the date I had marked on my calendar!), I paid it in full immediately, hoping I would somehow be able to slide under the wire. Didn't happen.

So, to summarize: It's still reporting with that initial balance, even though I did pay to $0 after that. And it stayed at $0 for a few days before I made another purchase.

Next statement date is early November. I guess I could pay it off now and see what happens ...

I just paid in full. Will report back.

One small issue, though .. I have some pending charges and it wouldn't allow me to pay off the entire pending amount. I guess I can only go over the balance by a set percentage and the pending was too large??

Anyway, if necessary, I'll make an additional payment later.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever had an opportunity to investigate this until now. My CSP closing date just sneaked by and reported a $xx balance. I will PIF today and see if Shifty's statement is true for me also....

Always works like this for me too. This is the default behavior for Chase.

That was my exact scenario, but with different dates. Did not re-report ....

Am very interested to see what happens for both of us.

eta: my *new* scenario has me PIFing almost exactly mid-way in the cycle. PIF 10/18, next statement date 11/2.

Pretty much what happened for me, too ... twice.

Pretty nice of them to do that. Makes the system a tad bit fairer.

Anybody else besides Chase report like that?

Is this true of all Chase cards, including co-branded?

Is it possible it did *not* work for me because it is a United card, rather than Freedom or CSP?

Just a thought ....

In any case, I should know more in a few days.

I don't know about other co-branded card but it works for Chase Amazon.

Good to know - thanks!

I should know for sure in a few days ... fingers crossed ...

Works for Chase United.

Assuming it works for all Chase cards

Please don't assume it ...

As I stated above, it did *not* work for me on the United card. It might be a matter of timing, so will be interesting to see what happens for BDK, as that timing is basically the same. Or it might be because it was the first statement??

I'm testing it again now, so we'll see.

Clearly I don't know the reason, but my first experience with this did not work.

Don't just dismiss that, please. It is a valid data point.

The United Card worked for me.

CSP worked for me

SWA Worked for me

It's been documented around here.

I'm glad to hear it.

And I hope it works for me, too.

But it didn't work on my first "attempt" (I wasn't actually attempting to do it, but that's irrelevant). And I just want my data point to be given equal weight.

It's something I've noticed here ... I'm venting now, so hold on .... but on the few occasions that I've given valid info about something that goes against the norm, my info is utterly dismissed. That's not very scientific!

Just sayin' ....

Bottom-line ... it doesn't "always" work. One time (mine), it did not work. Therefore, it *usually* works.

Yes, I'm being somewhat pedantic. I'm also having some wine .... :yu:

YMMV.

+1000

LOL!

Yes, absolutely.

That's all I really wanted to hear .....

I'm not crazy ... just had a couple glasses of wine ...

Forgive me, I am a scientist and do not really deal well with absolutes. I like to always have that "out" ... with all contingencies addressed ...

I agree everything is YMMV. Thanks for contributing to science :)

I also have to wonder if there is a certain threshold $ amount that triggers the off-cycle reporting.

I mean, if you have a $50 balance and pay it mid-month, are they really going to re-report? Or does it take $1000? or some other amount? Curious minds ....

I agree. What if you pay off 50%? 75%. Or does it have to be $0 balance?
