Macy's CLI: Pull or No Pull?

So, what's the current state of requesting a CLI on a Macy's store card?

 

Are they hard pulling, soft pulling, or it depends on the whimsy and abilities of who you talk to on the phone?

Soft pull for me a few months back. They lowered the line to $150 as I haven't used the card in a couple of years. Raised it back up after my request.

They wanted to pull hard on recent CLI. It can vary, if reports aren't on ice, expect that HP (not infrequently on EX) is a possibility.

I've only had soft pulls on both store and Macy's AmEx, but don't be naive -- always have reports on ice just in case.

IIRC, the Macy's credit reps are trained to tell you that your request will result in a hard pull, even though they have no way of knowing. After your request is entered into their system, a set of rules is applied to your account to determine if they pull your credit or not.

 

I've always been told to expect a hard inquiry (both when requesting CLIs by phone and via secure messaging), and I've always declined. I almost never use my Macy's card, so giving up a HP would be silly, since odds are almost 100% they won't pull TU.

My requests on the Amex have always been a hard pull. I have only had softs when requesting on the store card.

I think it is timing.

 

I've never had a hard from Macy's either on store or AmEx.
