Need Secured Card - low 500's & in Chex :-(

Hi, everyone. I have gone through the master secured cards thread here, and I am thinking that one or two of the three would be my best options.

 

1. SDFCU (I am a member)
2. Wells Fargo
3. US Bank

 

What I have questions about are:

 

1. In the thread, it seems like it states that SDFCU is chex sensitive, but I am missing if that is for membership only or for secured app too...it looks like they don't check credit for secured card, but do they run you through chex again? I think I got into chex after I became a member with SDFCU. Am I safe applying for SDFCU Secured Card if I am in Chex but already a SDFCU member?
2. Well Fargo - pulls Experian, but I couldn't see anywhere if it is Chex sensitive or not? And it MAY graduate someday?
3. US Bank - same as Wells Fargo question about Chex? Pro - this one actually should graduate after 12 months....I am leaning in this direction if I can get in

***Capital One doesn't like me right now because of judgement I was never served for and am trying to get vacated, so they are not an option...I know we would all tend to suggest them ;-)

 

Thanks in advance for your advice. I am trying to clean up my chex report, I just got it in the mail and it will take awhile. I would like to get a secured card on my reports asap in the meanwhile.

Out of those 3, you should try SDFCU first IMO. Both Wells Fargo and US Bank check credit even for secured cards, and you may not qualify yet.

Thanks...so does SDFCU NOT run Chex System for the secured card? I know for a fact that I am currently in Chex. I guess at least I wouldn't get an inquiry for a denial, right? So I guess you're right and I have nothing to lose by applying for a secured card through SDFCU first? Thanks again!

There's no credit check for the secured card.

 

I'm not sure if they use Chex for the CC or membership only. I was approved for both with a paid account in Chex.

Agreed. I will try that one today...if I get it, I will wait until it reports on my credit and then get another secured one in a couple of months. Then I should be good to age while I wait / work on the cleaning of my not so pretty reports... Thanks!

I've seen a thread or two about BOA secured cards being viable at your scores, but you probably have to have a BOA account in good standing.

 

I think it's a EX hit. But you could freeze the EX and have them pull TU if it's better...

FIA will not lend, even on a secured, with an open judgement and scores in the low 500's. good luck

Discover gave me a rewards sec CC with no history and 2 open collections $59 and $864.

OK - BofA is out at least until judgement leaves - didn't really think I had a chance with them anyway ;-)

 

I wondered about Discover secured, I got "pre-qualified" for Discover It, but I know I would get denied - wondered if they would offer me secured upon denial?

Congrats! You can always call and speak with someone.

 

IMO, you should hold off on any other cards at least until SDFCU reports. Your first open revolving account will give you a decent bump up in scores.

Congrats on your card btw :-) How long did it take you from time of approval to get your card in your hands? I got my approval yesterday and I just signed the agreement document in their online center this am.

It took a little bit of time. I'm going to say that once I funded my account and let them know it probably took close to 10 days, maybe a little less. They aren't exactly fast in sending out their cards, but it's a really nice looking card.

When you do the docu sign stuff, you will need to download it to your computer then upload it to the doc folder on their website. Originally I had thought when you signed thru docu sign it went directly to them. It doesn't, have to upload yourself. They kept telling me they didn't get my signed documents and I couldn't figure out why lol. Of course maybe I am not that smart and others already know this but thought I would pass along. still waiting on my card as well...

Good to know...I will aske them if they received them. I just did the docusign stuff also...assumed it was all good.
