So I've emailed my credit union's CB disputes department several times trying to get them to remove a few late payments from my credit card and auto loan. The first time I tried about a year ago or so they said they would do it, but then I saw it pop up on my EX file. I had a few lates from earlier this year that I've been trying to get them to remove. I said something to the effect of being a member for five years, been current otherwise and that I was able to pay off the loan and CC. Now they just keep saying that they can't remove them because they are reporting correctly.

If I escalate to an EO who would I address the letter to? CEO, COO? What else can I do?

Thanks.

CEO is usually a good bet, but I've had pretty good luck recently with addressing to CFO's. Perhaps start at the CFO and you can always escalate to the CEO if no progress.

Can you clarify your OP a little for me...? I can't tell which of these scenarios we're discussing:

  1. Did they remove some lates more than a year ago and now they don't do it a 2nd time?
  2. Or did you ask them some time ago for courtesy removal of these lates and someone agreed to remove, yet they didn't follow through?

The first time was a single late on my auto loan. I'll have to quadruple check my other files to see if it's still in there. They said they would remove it, but later on I had a few more lates that I'm trying to have removed which are the ones from earlier this year. All these lates remain on four CR's at the moment.

Thanks for the clarification...that was the impression I got from the first post, but I didn't want to assume. It's certainly worth running up the flagpole to see if it gets a salute. I hope you'll temper your expectations, though, to avoid potential disappointment and/or frustration. It's a completely discretionary and essentially unmerited gift for a lender to remove legitimate lates. So most treat repeat offenses with far less generosity.

If it were me, I would throw myself at the mercy of the court and completely steer clear of any implication that they are flipping the script, since they removed so easily the first time. If approached in that manner, they may express regret for doing it the first time, rather than apologize for making it harder for you this round.

In summary, just remember that you'll catch far more flies with honey than vinegar. Let us know how it turns out -- I'm rootin' for ya! :good:

Did that original late reappear after you were late the second time?

I'm really not sure. I don't really remember too well since I hadn't been checking my reports as much as I used to before I bought my house.

It either did or it didn't. One presumes you know what your reports say now so if you recall that a late was removed earlier you know that it was reported later.

Its not uncommon for a lender to re-report a late that was removed as a curtiosity if your late again. If that's the case then you will have a very tough time getting them removed again. But it all depends on the bank and your relationship with them.

I have other credit cards with maybe one or two lates. GW didn't work with them either. I'll have to just try again with letters to the EO's I guess. Hopefully I can get something done.

I thought it would be easier to show all the lates in an image. BCU refers to my credit union. Obviously there are some variances in how they are reported to the 4 CRA's. Can this somehow be used to achieve a removal?

They will just update with the correct info.

Just got a call from the District Manager at the CU. He was saying that they will have to check and see what they have done for other members in similar situations as a way of being fair to all their members before possibly removing the late payments. Hopefully I'll get somewhere.

I don't think that a lot of creditors understand the reporting thing. It seems that most companies think that they have to report a certain way. I know the law states that the info they do report should be accurate. But these creditors can report the way they want to. So there is goodwill, if they want to help you. But most just don't get it. they only know how to follow orders from higher up management.

I would never attempt a goodwill request with the department whose job it is to ensure accurate reporting.
