I will be disputing with a few Original Creditors some derogatories they are reporting to the CRA's using the 623 dispute method as these came back from the CRA's as verified. My credit report only lists partial account numbers. Will these partial account numbers along with a copy of my credit report listing the item they are reporting be enough information for them to respond to my dispute as I do not want them to deny the request based on incomplete information.

The partial account numbers are fine. Just list it like it's printed in your report, including the xxxx's. They will be able to find it and if not, even better. Circle the specific issues you have in red on the copy of your report. Here's my sample letter if it helps. It's a little long and can be shortened if you like.

Account #: (as reported on your credit report) (only one account per OC per letter)

This letter is to inform you that I am disputing the above referenced account with you for lack of completeness and/or accuracy. This is letter should not be construed to be an admission or claim of ownership of the above referenced account.

Section 623 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), enforceable under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, affords consumers like myself the right to request that a furnisher of information conduct a reasonable investigation into the completeness and accuracy of the information being reported.

This account was also disputed with the credit reporting bureaus prior to this request and was confirmed by your company to be accurate when they contacted you for verification. I’m sure we both understand that most disputes are only conducted electronically, such as the use of software like E-Oscar, and that mistakes can easily be made during that process.

I am disputing the following information directly with you for lack of completeness and/or accuracy:

(Enter detailed info about what is being disputed here line-by-line and numbered. If enclosing a copy of your report, circle the issues on your report in red.)

If you’re unable to preform a reasonable investigation in this matter, or you’re unable to locate the necessary documents to investigate my dispute(s); then you are required by the FCRA to remove the negative information from my credit reports, which can also include complete removal of the account.

If you’re able to conduct a proper investigation of the records for this account, and have identified the information that was being falsely reported, please update that information. I am also requesting that you send me an explanation of the methods used to investigate this matter and send a copy of that information to me so I can conduct my own investigation.

This letter was completed and mailed to you on my own accord and all correspondence related to this dispute should be returned to me at the address listed above. This letter is an attempt to correct the false or misleading information you are reporting on my credit reports, and to correct your records.

Thank you for your prompt response,

Me

I wonder how this letter would work sent to the county recorder office, who Experian lists as the furnisher of information?

It would apply to anyone reporting on your credit report, including OCs, CAs, and public records. Just remember that a CRA dispute must be completed with all of the CRAs that is reporting what you are disputing before sending off a 623.

There might be better ways to deal with a county recorder, so I would look into that first. I guess it would depend on your situation.
