My DW emailed the Citibank CEO asking for a goodwill deletion. They called her to get account info, then responded by letter a few days later that stated in part:

Our records indicate that your account was included in Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, which was

discharged on Month dd, 2010. We understand from your correspondence that you have requested

that your account record be deleted. Please be advised that under applicable laws, creditors are

obligated to retain identifying and credit information in connection with a credit card account for

a certain period of time. Therefore, we are unable to delete your account record as you have

requested. The account has been reported as disputed to the credit bureaus.

Do you think hey misunderstood our request? We are asking for deletion from the Credit Bureaus, not from their own internal records.

Home Depot/Citi was my very first deletion and I was shocked because it wasn't due to drop until 2016. I just sent a simple DV and it was gone within days. 5 k +. Try the DV instead.

Not sure if a DV would work for an account that was IIB?

It worked for me and IIB'd Home Depot/Citi. I got it off my reports about 3 months after discharge. Now, 3 years later, I have a new Depot card. DV it!

Did you dispute with credit bureaus simultaneously with the DV?

Yes - I disputed it simultaneously with all 3. It was gone very quickly - I remember being very surprised as it was the first account I got off. I never received anything back from Citi - the account just disappeared.
