I shop on Amazon and at Walmart all the time.

I was wondering whether these store cards are worth getting at all for any perks, coupons, etc., or should I just continue to use my regular MC/VISA cards at these fine establishments?

Don't really need the FICO, since I have Discover and Barclays...but I would like to get back in with Synchrony/GE since I did burn Walmart for about 1500 in my BK 4+ years ago.

The Amazon.com store card is GREAT.

I still got my $4000 CLI!!

^^ $4000 CL not CLI

I achieved better than expected CLI at the 6 months mark for Master/Visa at Barclay's and Cap 1 by NOT having any store cards. I am 19 months out of ZBK with a 650 FICO and I am glad I didn't get Walmart or Amazon.

I say neither. I have them and neither is all that great. Lowe's and JCPenney's are the Synch cards I actually use and both offer discounts. But I have a new house to purchase crapola for- without it, these would sit in the sock drawer too.

I have no store cards but then I have no unsecured cards yet at all... holding out for a regular, unsecured non AU. But those free Fico's seem pretty nice to me apart from my DCU acct. But with no points, how is Amazon worth it?

Thanks for the input guys, I will look to get back into GE/Sync some other way, I don't really want a store card but I saw some large limits in some siggys and it piqued my interest. I do have a Macy's that rode through BK with me, and a Kay's I got right after my discharge, so those will do.

No, those are two pretty worthless cards. Walmart is only useful for a transunion FICO score, which you are already getting via Barclays. And there are better cards if you think you need more TU scores (like Discover).

For Amazon.com purchases, use a Sallie Mae Mastercard (which is a Barclays card, but you can't apply via Barclays web site). 5% cash back on Grocery Stores (capped at $250/month), 5% cash back on Gas Stations (separate $250/month cap) and 5% cash back on Book Stores like Amazon.com purchases (capped at $750/month). https://www.salliemae.com/credit-cards/sallie-mae-card/

For Walmart, if you are in the Huntington Bank area, get their Voice card. If you are in HI, CA, NV, OR, WA try to get the JCB Marukai card for 3% cash back on everything, with a small annual fee. Otherwise just get a card that gives 2% cashback on all purchases, such as a Citi Double Cash MasterCard. In fact, get the Double Cash even if you get the Voice card...

Looking at the 10 cards in my signature, in the 4th quarter of 2014, cards #1, #2, #3, #4, #6 and #7 will all give me 5% cash back on amazon.com purchases. There really is no need to settle for 0% or 3% cash back at Amazon.

How likely is it for the OP to get those cards with a BK showing?

I finally got a WM last year with a BK from 2009 showing. However, they only gave me a $150 credit line and have thus far steadfastly refused to raise it by even one cent.

Barclays is about the only card in that siggy that someone with a BK present might get.

It has been reported that US Bank is BK friendly after the 5 year post BK mark.

I will be 5 years out in December, so I will wait a bit and try for a US Bank product. I have a Priceline Shat card, but I'm so-so with Barclay and don't want another one, they refuse to lower my APR but they have grown my limit from 1700 to 8200 in about 3 years all auto CLI, and I expect another bump in about 2 weeks.

I do appreciate everyone's input, thanks.

If you're worried about APR, you're doing it wrong. Edited by mendelssohn

How is the Shat?

I always PIF on the Shat so the APR doesn't really matter, it's the principle. The Shat is doing well and I always get a chuckle or two when the clerk looks at him when I hand it over.

Sallie Mae is on her way.

Took the plunge and got a smaller than hoped-for line at 5K but glad to get a 5% gas/amazon card. No luck with recon since Barclays wants other high limits to show besides themselves, my current reported high is Shat at 8K.

Thanks for the input here, peeps!

Got my good eye on the Sams MC for the 5% gas also...wonder if they are BK friendly?
