I have an entry on Chexsystems that is almost five years old. It actually doesn't even belong to me, but rather to my father with whom I share my name. The last four digits of the SSN on the report don't even closely match mine. However, Chexsystems is steadfast in their refusal to remove it.

To that end, I have had to circumvent Chexsystems and open my accounts at banks that do not subscribe to that silly service. In my experience, there are many credit unions that do not pull Chexsystems, including NASA FCU, PSECU, PenFed, Navy Federal, Apple FCU are just a few. I know Dept. of Commerce FCU unquestionably pulls Chexsystems, as does Alliant FCU, SECU, Georgia's Own, Congressional Federal and Dept. of Agriculture FCU. Additionally, I've found from experience that Chase and Citi uses Chexsystems, but SunTrust, TD, USAA and WF do not.

I have come to realize, much to my satisfaction and surely to their chagrin, that Chexsystems' relevance and influence in the banking industry is slowly eroding. I hope this helps those of you who are stuck under the thumb of Chexsystems.

Did you send proof of your identity (copy of SSN card)? We have a powerful legal advocate in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the federal watchdog agency. Chexsystems violates the FCRA is they refuse to remove inaccurate information. Although it is close to the five year drop off, I would file a complaint. The ID confusion may resurface later.

Note: WF uses Chexsystems and EWS. They may ignore older Chex entries, but EWS is usually an instant denial. There are several options out there . . . banks, brokerage/money market accounts - and yes, credit unions. The problem is that most individuals trying to bounce back don't know about them. Unless you find a forum like this one, you can spin your wheels and rack up of a lot of inquiries.

Are you saying this is identity theft or a case of a mixed file?

Is the all the information in the entry fully correct?

Yes, there are alternatives to Chexsystems, but the problem is many people are not aware of them and they go through a lot because of constant denials.

To the best of my knowledge. From my understanding, I've got about 10 months before it drops off anyway, so I'm just planning on letting it go. I was mostly trying to add data about Nasa.

My fiancé and I have our money split across two banks and NFCU, and I have minimally funded accounts with PenFed and USAA, so I'm not actually in need of banking products and I need to let new accounts age before I app any more credit. Although I may rethink Nasa after some of the reports lately from CB members. Point is, I'm in no rush.

Looking to help a friend refinance a high balance mortgage at $550K 80% LTV in a county that goes up to $625K. Time horizon is about ten years before property is sold. May need non-occupying owner to sign the note also to get DTI ratios acceptable. Current note is presently in the non-occupying owner's name (brother of home occupant).

I'm looking at PenFed and NFCU so far.

PenFed offers a 5/5 at 2.875% and no origination fees with a 2% cap on adjustment and 43% DTI only needing a 680+ FICO score, however, all borrowers must reside in the house.

I don't know as much about the NFCU rates, so far it appears they offer a 5/5 at 2.5% and 0.25% origination fee but the rate varies with your FICO score, still getting more info on this one.

Other Credit Unions to consider? What about USAA, how good are their mortgage rates?

I joined Nasa federal Credit Union. Do I have 30 days or less to apply for a credit card in order to avoid a hard pull or does it matter?

Here's my big list of low interest credit cards, sorted by cash advance interest rate (excluding those with a big transaction fee).

My starting point was the top 100 credit union list here: outbound link removed.

Obviously, this is not the place to look for rewards cards, and a lot of people will prefer 0% balance transfer offers, but some folks may get a benefit.

Feel free to reply with updates and additions, especially smaller credit unions that weren't on my starting list.

      Hey CBers!

I am in need of advice. Just completed an App Spree for DW. (I am still waiting on a few things, then I will post the whole shabang!) Nonetheless, at the end of the App Spree I decided to do a few last apps for some CU's (lesson learned, All Newbies, PLEASE READ CB BEFORE ATTEMPTING ON YOUR OWN!!). Alliant pulled a soft and DCU pulled a hard. The dilemmas are that 1) DCU approved her as a "Limited Member" due to balances on open accounts and current accounts less than 2 yrs old and are saying that they must pull another hard for any other apps (i.e. CC and LOC). So should I allow them to pull a hard, the new CR will show the app spree (inquiries and new accounts) and I am worried this could adversely affect her membership. OR is there anyone I can talk to that may be able to change the decision to do another hard pull? 2) Alliant says they would need to pull a hard since they only pulled a soft to join. Hence I am worried about the app spree showing up with all the new accounts and inquiries, is it worth a try? Any and all advice is appreciated.

      Thanks,
      BD

Hello!! Ok so here is my dilemma. Not sure if this is the right forum.
I’m 25 years old and just discovered what Chexsystem is. I lost my job and my checking account became overdrawn for $420 dollars. Half of which are fees from TD Bank. I contacted TD immediately after I received my first paycheck and they said they were in the process of closing my account it was on day 61; so I just missed it by a day!! Grrrrr! I begged and pleaded ask to speak to supervisors and all I got was there is nothing we could do.

So, I hopped online and back on this board and after reading through everything I went the next day which was this past Tuesday and opened up 4 checking accounts Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Citizens Bank and local Credit Union. I didn’t want to take any chances on when they would report me to Chexsystems so I just went the very next day. From what I’ve read once you’re in ChexSystems you can’t open a checking account for 5 years! That’s crazy! There is no way I could go 5 years. The reason I opened 4 is because I saw where some accounts were closed because the bank did a Chexsystems sweep, so I figure out of 4 I have a better chance of having at least one stay open. My other reasons are because I need to establish credit; so I want to get secured credit cards with all these banks and start utilizing.

My credit file was blank up until last year. I have 2 collections, one medical and one is from an AT&T bill and I am assuming now the one from TD bank will appear soon. I just started working with Credit saint credit repair (heard good things about them and good BBB rating) I’m not that savvy in contacting the bureaus myself.

OK so basically I just need a game plan at this point on how to establish my credit from this point on and rebuild. I REALLY hate I let these stupid 3 things even get on my file! Please help and sorry for the long rant!
