Well, my credit profile isn't entirely clean. Not particularly dirty. & I got turned down for ClubC at the same time I was getting 5 figure new cards from Chase, Citi and Barclays.

I suppose I could try for the ClubC again next application cycle, with ARS/IDA frozen, but I don't have plans to use any hotel points in the next six months anyhow, so I figure if I can get a fat credit line with the Kroger or Platinum, just apply for one of them now.

As per myfico.com posts, you can

- transfer credit lines from a Kroger card to a rewards card
- PC a flex perks or Platinum to Cash +

(both cited here http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/US-Bank-CC-Experience/td-p/2934522/highlight/true/page/3 )

- get regular, automatic CLIs with any US Bank card.

So, if my goal is to get a Cash+, I could wait a year until my profile is thicker and credit score higher, or I could apply for a Platinum card now, with a 5 figure credit limit, and PC it to a Cash+ in a year. & have a thicker profile in the meantime, and probably a higher Cash+ credit limit in the end anyhow. (My goals are increased available credit and a 5% cashback restaurant card).

I'll post the results when I pull one trigger or another in a couple months.

Rewards may be terrible, but the initial credit line appears to be generous, and folks on myfico.com report that US Bank is generous with automatic credit limit increases.

So while this card itself may not produce rewards itself, it appears to be an easy high credit limit card to apply for, which will provide some nice thickening for a developing credit file, and make the holder more eligible for the premium cards with premium rewards.

I applied for Club Carlson, was denied. Club C and the Cash+ Rewards card are great rewards card, but here and at myfico.com folks report frequent denials on application. It looks like I'd be a good candidate for the Kroger card, which would improve the strength of future applications for Cash+, CC and other premium cards, with USB or with others.

Its my strategy, anyway.

With a clean profile I dont see the Club carlson card being a hard card to get... Us bank has pre-rec's Freeze ARS and IDA, Have EX on ice... Netted me and CV 22K Auto approvals. I have about 20 accounts under 6 months of age... So I dont see them being that scared.

YMMV

I only had Experian frozen.

"what's the benefit of this card? don't see US bank limit over $50k often"

Different folks have different goals and different existing conditions.

If all you want is a 50K credit line, Kroger probably isn't your card.

If you have a decent, but not great credit profile and credit score, and you would like to qualify for a US Bank credit card with good rewards but high rate of application denials, then you can start your relationship with US Bank with a Kroger Card or a Platinum Card. Which are easy to get with decent but not great profiles. The Platinum can be product changed (PC'ed) to a Cash+ rewards card. And while the Kroger Card can't be PC'ed, the credit line can be transferred to one of the premium cards after you qualify for it.

See this thread I started a couple weeks ago about being denied for their Club Carlson card.

Krogers is my grocery store, my TU is inq clean as of today and EX is frozen. I may just have to see what happens.

I thought it was "Kroger." No?

Hmm. It is but for some reason I always say Krogers. Now I'm realizing I'm probably as annoying as those people who say Walmarts.

Thanks for pointing that out!

"While we are on us bank... is the flex perks card worth a dam? "

Flex Perks: It appears that after the NWA/Delta merger, US Bank turned customers' NWA WorldPerks credit cards into FlexPerks cards.

What it has:

* 20,000 point signup bonus.

* Ability to PC to Cash+ (a 5% restaurant card) after 12 months. (Cash+ has no signup bonus).

* As per creditpulls database, you can get a flex perks with a FICO score of 700ish, while the Cash+ entries are more in the 740+ range.

* For redemption, a bit complicated, but a few minutes on Flyertalk should get it figured out.

Damn. They pulled EX for me. Forgot I lifted EX for amex app. Ugh....

Just for future reference, I found a free way to deal with EX and AmEx applications. I keep EX frozen solid. When I app for an AmEx I call them after a few minutes and give them my EX PIN number. They can pull through the freeze.

"Nordstrom's" bugs me even more. And don't get me started with "Nordie's." :D

The rewards are terrible. Each point is only worth half a cent, so even in the 3 point category on Kroger brands, you are only earning 1.5 cents per dollar.

1-2-3 REWARDS Visa Card Benefits

  • For every $1 net purchase you’ll earn:1
    • 1 point anywhere Visa Cards are accepted.
    • 2 points in the Kroger family of stores (excluding fuel centers).
    • 3 points on the Kroger family of quality brands.
  • Rewards are sent automatically every quarter. Every 1,000 points you earn gets you $5 in free groceries.
  • Save an additional 25¢ per gallon at Kroger Family of Stores Fuel Centers2 for the first 3 months when you redeem 100 fuel Rewards points.
  • It's three cards in one - Rewards Card, Shopper's Card and Visa Card.

There are many better options out there.

Read your post about 5 minutes too late and had already hit the apply button. Got the 7-10 day message and they pulled EQ :-/
