I don't know about the kroger card but for the Club Carlson card US Bank tends to be inquiry sensitive. It helps to freeze those two reports that keep track of inquiries. I can't think of the name right now.

They pulled Experian for me but I think they might be a regional puller, pulling based on where you live.

I got this card yesterday. I didn't even want it... I just wanted a card from a new issuer.

Auto approved, also at $22,000, also with a TU pull.

I had 8 inquiries on TU before the app, 4 of them from yesterday alone. The other 4 were from May.

If you have a strong credit profile I don't believe that US Bank is as jittery about inquiries as they're portrayed. Maybe they were at one time, but if I couldn't strike out with 8...

Plus the ones they picked up from IDA and ARS...

Do you go to all the kids birthday parties and pop their balloons?

I loathe children too much to get that close to where they might congregate.

Congrats on the nice limits, folks. I'm going to try either the Kroger or the Platinum route to a US Bank relationship after my newest cards get a little older. I was rejected for a Club Carlson a few months ago for "too many recent inquiries." http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=532343

Remember to update the creditpulls database -- its pretty slim on Krogers card info.

I have US Bank through another affinity program - at the time they seemed pretty generous but they did call me to "verify information" then tell me they were approving me for a $16K limit, which has since been increased incrementally to $20K. Rate is up there though - 18.99% so it's definitely a PIF card.

Krogers is my grocery store, my TU is inq clean as of today and EX is frozen. I may just have to see what happens.

The rewards are terrible. Each point is only worth half a cent, so even in the 3 point category on Kroger brands, you are only earning 1.5 cents per dollar.

1-2-3 REWARDS® Visa Card Benefits

  • For every $1 net purchase you’ll earn:1
    • 1 point anywhere Visa Cards are accepted.
    • 2 points in the Kroger® family of stores (excluding fuel centers).
    • 3 points on the Kroger family of quality brands.
  • Rewards are sent automatically every quarter. Every 1,000 points you earn gets you $5 in free groceries.
  • Save an additional 25¢ per gallon at Kroger Family of Stores Fuel Centers2 for the first 3 months when you redeem 100 fuel Rewards points.
  • It's three cards in one - Rewards Card, Shopper's Card and Visa Card.

There are many better options out there.

I've heard they are BK friendly at the 5 year post BK mark!

Good to know. That means I'll need to wait until at least November. :(

If you want to get in with US Bank, try for one of their better cards.

Do all have a five-year moratorium?

I have no idea (I don't have any of their cards), but I do know that the rewards on this card are terrible.

Rewards may be terrible, but the initial credit line appears to be generous, and folks on myfico.com report that US Bank is generous with automatic credit limit increases.

So while this card itself may not produce rewards itself, it appears to be an easy high credit limit card to apply for, which will provide some nice thickening for a developing credit file, and make the holder more eligible for the premium cards with premium rewards.

I applied for Club Carlson, was denied. Club C and the Cash+ Rewards card are great rewards card, but here and at myfico.com folks report frequent denials on application. It looks like I'd be a good candidate for the Kroger card, which would improve the strength of future applications for Cash+, CC and other premium cards, with USB or with others.

Its my strategy, anyway.

My strategy has been to apply for new cards when I can step up in quality. Even the Barclays Rewards MC and Cap1 QS have better rewards than this card.

There's more than one path to building a solid credit profile. I personally just don't see this card as a good choice.

With a clean profile I dont see the Club carlson card being a hard card to get... Us bank has pre-rec's Freeze ARS and IDA, Have EX on ice... Netted me and CV 22K Auto approvals. I have about 20 accounts under 6 months of age... So I dont see them being that scared.
