Hmmm... I'm willing to bet the figure is customers of each credit union then added up, not taking into consideration members that have accounts with more than one credit union.

If these customers were like people on CreditBoards, each customer would, on average, be a member of 20 different credit unions. That would bring the number down to five million unique members. ;)

... and eleven people who are satisfied CU customers, nine of whom are with NFCU, and the other two have DCU car loans.

CV, did you see the card pictured at the beginning of the article? ;)

There are amateur CUs, but I have also dealt with some really amateur banks.

I don't put NFCU in the amateur category.

navy's cards are so ho-hum. even when I found a way in I decided to not deal with their weird pull-out form of birth control.

Their cards aren't that great, but they are better than the typical 1% CU rewards cards.

Yep, saw that. Paying with a check from your amateur CU would be more convenient.

NFCU is amateur because they aren't ambitious enough to figure out how to serve more than 0.0503% of the US population. Lemonade stands have higher aspirations.

Yet they are the largest CU in the US, but they don't serve everyone.

I wish I could get a US Bank Cash+ Visa, but surprisingly you can't get one in TX. There's not a single branch here apparently, and you can only apply in branch.

CUs have a purpose, and I do agree with you that eventually you outgrow a lot of what CUs have to offer, but not all CUs are bad. NFCU is a good CU, even ignoring the credit side of everything. If I change my opinion after a mortgage app with them, I'll let you know.

I know, you just vomited a little in your mouth and had a stroke thinking about the mortgage process with a CU. :P

Are Cap1 UWs as generous with CLs?

So is the Capital One Quicksilver.

Are Cap1 UWs as generous with CLs?

In one day the Capital One EO gives more dollar volume in CLIs $300 at a time than any sh1tty CU does all year.

With a low 600s EQ FICO, Cap1 will give a $500 CL and NFCU a $10,000 CL. That's why NFCU has no parallel for rebuilders.

The customer service is very good and the banking side is good as well. Not like private client banking, but better than most banks for the average consumer.

I understand where they fit in the process, and I would encourage anyone who is rebuilding to take the NFCU route if they can.

I am transitioning my main banking to Chase, but NFCU will stay up there for me as number 2 for now.

What about PenFed? They supposedly are good for ACH transfers, although I agree, I never have a need for lightening fast transfers to get cash and I don't need my paycheck early one time.

Actually, I can post my opinion and probably your rebuttal as well. Maybe you should just use the least annoying emoticons to let me know if I already understand your perspective. :P

I appreciate and respect consistency. That doesn't mean I completely agree, but I respect it.
