I remembered reading here not too long ago that there was some confusion between HSBC and Cap1 as to which bank owned the old, closed charged off CCs that were closed prior to the Cap1 purchase of HSBC CCs. If I could find the thread, I would post it.

I had an HSBC charged of CC that was closed prior to the purchase that was set to fall off in 10/2015, and I decided to take a chance and dispute it as obsolete with TU, along with a couple other accounts I am disputing. This account was reporting only on EX and TU, and all prior attempts to dispute it off had failed.

To my surprise, it was deleted from EX a few days later! I didn't even dispute it with EX. Yesterday, it was also deleted from TU.

This leads me to believe that TU did actually submit a dispute to verify with HSBC, and that HSBC submitted a request to all CRAs to have it removed. My guess is that it has to do with the ownership issue.

If you have one of these old HSBC charged off CCs reporting, it might be a good time to try and dispute it, even if you have already tried in the past. Good luck!

Mendel,

Just curious, what was your method or reason in the dispute if you don't mind me asking?

And congrats on the deletion!

Capital one is handling all HSBC reporting since they purchased the accounts.

This is true. My wife's old HSBC charged off account is actually being reported by Capital One. I have been in discussions with Capital One about getting this charge off removed.

Yes, but there was a question of ownership of the accounts and whether or not they should be reporting under HSBC's name, which mine was.

Had 2 co HSBC accounts. I sent dispute on one of them to HSBC was deleted in 3 weeks off all 3 reports. I recently sent the 2nd dispute to HSBC and has not deleted yet, but have hope that it will as well. Both were co in 2008-2009. If the 2nd doesnt' come off soon I will dispute with cra's.

A while ago I had an old HSBC charge-off that I sent a written dispute to all three CRA and within a week it was removed. I thought maybe the fact that Cap One now has it just decided to not bother with it. I had previously read that HSBC before they sold off their CC unit was next to impossible get removed but I tried anyway.

edit: CO was early 2009. At the time of the dispute I had 3 Cap One accounts active

Did you dispute online or write in? I happened to be on TU yesterday pulling a report so I disputed a couple phone numbers and addresses that were no good. Now I'm locked out until that's complete. I'm in the same boat, so figure it's worth a shot

I had an old HSBC charge off, it was reporting as a CAP1 card to EX and TU, and HSBC to EQ. I disputed, and Cap1 removed from all three bureaus, right away and sent a letter. Oddly, it reappeared on EQ right as the 30 days from the original dispute was up. I called EQ, and they said HSBC verified the TL.

Anyways, I am sure you all know, there is no talking to HSBC, so I wrote a CAP1 EO, who fwd me to a HSBC EO, and I send him the CAP1 letter. He sent it to "that department" whatever that means about 10 days ago. He said they should have some response within 7-10 business days. We'll see.

TL;DR

Probably a good time if the TL is showing Cap1, otherwise YMMV.

Mine was being reported by HSBC, but Cap1 was responding to disputes, and the address on my reports was a Cap1 address.

Anyone know how long it takes for the TU dispute to reset online after a completed investigation? A couple days before this thread I cleaned up some personal info and they fixed, but it just shows me a button to see my revised report. No button to start a new dispute.

I might have to give this a try in September. My DOFD was Aug 2011, so I just want to be sure I'm past the 3 year limit before drawing any attention.

My Best Buy card was a HSBC card that was charged off prior to the sale. Looking at mt report I pulled today it's being reported as CAP1/BSTBY, with the comment "Purchased by another lender" and the Payment history reflecting closed in Sep 2012.

So how would one word this dispute questioning ownership? Looking at my account it was charged off prior in Feb 2012 prior to the final sale and capital one reported for a few more months then all of sudden it was closed. I don't even know who the new lender is since I've never been contacted by anyone else concerning this account.
