Hate. The. Beach.

Me too. I only go for my kids.

Same here. My boys love the beach. Some of the beaches in Washngton and Oregon are actually very nice, but most people don't like the weather, so...

...but if you like cold rainy beaches, WA and OR is the place to be (non-Summer). That's the only saving grace for me. I can sometimes trick the boys into going to the rainy beaches. :)

Beer Chocolate FTW! I lived in Oregon from 08-10, they do enjoy the beer. I went to the Brewers festival one year, just everything you could imagine.

Oregon is on the list of states I've never visited:

- Alaska

- Idaho

- Kentucky

- Maine

- Montana

- Oregon

- Vermont

I have no desire to go to any of these, with the exception of Alaska.

You take that back! I lived in Oregon from 1980-2011. One day I will get out of this crap fest and move back. I want to go to Alaska, too.

You've been to North Dakota and Minnesota? I hope you were at least in the decent areas.

I've been to Herberger's in Fargo and in Fergus Falls, and I've been enraptured by the Fleet Farm experience at points nearby in between. I don't care where you are, it doesn't get better than Fleet Farm.

Hopefully you were at the Herberger's in Fargo and not the one in Moorhead. Moorhead is the ghetto. All of it. It needs to be bulldozed. Fergus Falls is known for speed traps. Funny you mention Fleet Farm....because that's where I had my credit card experience yesterday. They're one of my favorites if you can ignore the farmbilly types so generally shop there. They have my M1 0W40 Euro formula oil at a good price, and they give you gas coupons every time you shop there. AND (!!) they sell ethanol-free premium fuel.

I'm amazed Fleet Farm sells european spec oil, and european automotive light bulbs considering the average customer doesn't drive anything more interesting than a Silverado or Impala. But they do, and I love them for it.

I don't exactly blend right in there among the camouflaged d-bags shopping for crossbows and duck blinds as I drag my Turkish husband through the animal pee aisle.

Are you sure? Same people, different season = lots of orange.

Let's see:

- I hate Seattle.

- San Francisco is fun for up to three consecutive days, but only if the sun is out.

Ergo:

It's impossible that anything in between would win my heart.

No Minnie, trust me you would not. I lived in AK for 20 years. Feb is NOT when you go for a visit. July is best, IMHO. Alaska is not to be missed however, it lives up to the hype.

The year I spent in Fairbanks, it was below -50F the whole month of December, and below -60F the week of Christmas (that's when I learned what a block heater is, and why I should have had one :P ). But below -30º , it all feels the same :) . Summers in Fairbanks, it can get into the 80's.

On the coast (Anchorage, Kenai penninsula, Juneau), the ocean moderates the temperature 10-20 degrees on either end.

Actually, winter in the interior isn't as bad as it sounds. The air is still and dry, so the cold doesn't seep in. I've literally been colder on the beach in SoCal than I was in Alaska.

Oh, I have got to tell a story!

Years ago, my sister and her hubby got stationed in Alaska. For her Christmas gift, I was going to get her some long-johns.

I was telling a friend that. (Note: we were in college at the time) She looked at me like she was really confused. She asked "Why on earth are you getting her long johns?"

Me: "Um, because she is moving to Alaska"

her: "Exactly! Won't she get hot?"

Me: "No, it is really cold in Alaska"

Her: "No it's not! It is hot there!"

Me (thinking) WTF?

Her: "If you will take time to look at a map, you will see that it is right there next to Hawaii"

Me: :swoon:

I swear to anything holy that this is a true story. (ok, the exact words might be different, but you get the general gist of it)

Oh wait....I have another one. Same girl. Same general time frame.

I was sitting watching reruns of Black Sheep Squadron. It was a TV show back in the late 70s about a fighter squadron during WWII fighting the Japanese...

She is visiting while I am watching. She asks in all seriousness..."WWII had something to do with Hitler, right?"

Me: "um, yeah"

Her: "Then why were we fighting them? They aren't German are they" (referring to the Japanese)

Me: :swoon:

Nope. Completely serious.

I alternated between wanting to be around her so that I would feel like a genius......

and

Not wanting to be around her in public because I didn't want people to think I was ignorant by association.

I have a friend we'll call M. M was a sophomore in college when he learned that women don't pee from their... um... butts.

Yeah. There are some grown women, HAVING THEIR BABIES, who have no clue that they have three orifices...

Try explaining to a 20 something year old that putting a catheter in won't stop the baby from coming out...
