Well today is my one year anniversary of being discharged from Chp 13 bankruptcy.

The good part is because of Creditboards, I now have $40k worth of available credit, two car loans (which I'm thinking about refi) and a few fantastic credit unions.

To the newbies if you see this -- don't take offense to what these boards have to tell you and the responses to your questions I can guarantee you that most of their responses are right on point and are valuable advice.

Oh and my just to share my own experience I got a little carried away with the shopping cart trick and got highly addicted to approvals, but I quickly came down off that ledge when I was declined for too many new accounts....so I'm still reading and working on rebuild, but the leaps and bounds I have made are awesome and I owe it to each and every contributor here.

Just wanted to say thanks (and of course any more advice is always appreciated)!!!

Now I will take my little self to the garden where I will remain probably until Christmas or even January 2015.

Love you guys,

Thank you and yes lay low on those "toy limit" cards....I had a hard time using them to just get CLI....so I just use what I use and let the increases come when they come....I'm more concerned now with keeping utilization low and one day being more of a prime cardholder! Thanks again!

Question= Everyone told me to declare bankruptcy and I decided to tough it out... In retrospect, would you ever or did you ever consider just living with it and trying to survive? I was lucky in that I won a big lawsuit and now have money to live on but it was pretty damn tough...I owned a home in foreclosure and didn't even have money for an attorney...How did you make the decision? I am so happy for you- what a great achievement you have made for yourself...

Thanks again everyone!

@mizliz1011 - do you mean like do I regret filing for the bankruptcy? No, but let me tell you it was a very hard 30 months! I too had a home approaching foreclosure, a 80k luxury car with major problems and about 110k worth of debt (including a 2nd mortgage). Bankruptcy helped me tremendously. I got rid of the car and got a brand new basic one while in BK (it wasnt easy), it totally wiped out the second mortgage and all of the debt and I got my mortgage modified all thru my attorney to 2% and I only have left 20 years on my mortgage. So for me it was a win all the way around and I still paid back 36k of the debt in the process.

As a result I took the time to finish my education (an MBA) and got a better higher paying job. Today I drive a luxury car again this time a better one with a warranty and still have my home.

It was probably the best hands-on learning experience I have had about money management and credit. Now today just because I have the credit I'm not pressed to use it and I wish that when I joined Creditboards in 2003 I studied it the way I study here daily...I would have never got myself into such a pickle! This is why I'm grateful to each and every contributor on this board - whether good or bad -- because you learn from people's experiences and for me that worked!!

PS -- I'm glad something came thru for you to save you, but I wouldn't take it back for anything in the world!
