Applied for the regular old Gold Card...BK about 4 years old, no Amex included, but that was the reason given in the denial. My EX score is 720 last I checked, and I did default on them back in the 90's, so maybe I'm off the blacklist but still on the BK list :( Back to the freezer EX!

If you have an BK7 showing Amex will not approve you

They must have...OP indicates the BK was given as the denial reason. Like gdales6 says, looks like whipster is not on BL.

I've never had a personal AMEX, but have a family member that has been a card member for awhile. Hoping to become an AU for D* and subsequently app for one.

Op, did you try to call in and recon?

Planning to try and apply for an AMEX next month and in a similar circumstances. BK in 2008, never had an AMEX, I have been an AU on my wife's card since last year. Definately will be trying to call in if when I get denied.

I don't think you should waste the EX inquiry. They almost never approve with a BK. Remod07 didn't mention if the BK was showing on EX or not (he said it was on 2 out of 3), but it was 9 years old when he was approved.

Be careful on requesting a recon -- I did that last year and got hit with a 2nd EXP inq and the same denial reason.

I went back to look at what cra was pulled for my approval and it was transunion. That was the one that was not showing a bk for me. Could never get exp or equifax to remove bk early. But not on any reports now.

Yep, Amex will not (in any case that I've heard of) approve with a BK showing. Thanks for adding your information.

Are you in FL? I've heard that they pull TU in parts of FL but it's EX everywhere else.

I'm in Illinois. Seems from what can tell a lot of creditors pull from tu if in Illinois. I did a lot of apps in nov 2012 thinking they would pull from different cra's but 90% of them pulled from tu. That was before I found this site. Now I check credit pulls for Illinois to see what they will most likely pull from.

That can be a good thing if you B*.

I'm in North TX and a lot of creditors seem to pull EX.
