What should we do?

The original approval was for $5k, I then called a couple of days later for recon and they approved it for $7k. However, our account screen is showing 2 different accounts and the cards that came in the mail today was that of the $5k account number.

Do you think I will receive the other account number also? Should I call to try to have the accounts merged for a total of $12k? Or will they just shut one down if I make that request?

Does it show 2 different account numbers in the section you redacted? If they are different, I would assume they setup 2 different accounts.

Yes, 2 different account numbers. The cards in the mail today refer to the first limit.

I've seen recent threads about this happening with both PenFed and NASA. You could always try and close the low limit card and move the balance to the higher limit card and see if it works. :D

IIRC, in those two other instances that I mentioned, it didn't work. If they close the low limit account, make sure it disappears from your reports.

I has a similar issue with another creditor that gave me two different accounts at the same time

when I applied for one of their cards a couple of years ago.

I figured with in time they would catch their mistake and close one of the cards.

However, I was surprised they never took action and as of today I still have both accounts

which I have used on several occasions for balance transfers.

In my opinion, I would just keep both cards.

Interesting. I may just do that. Do both of your accounts report separately on your CR as well?

Thanks for the insight.

When the cards were issued they had two separate account numbers and both report to the credit bureau as separate accounts.

I have used both accounts and never had a problem.

I decided not to consolidate and kept both accounts separated.

Awesome. That is good to know. For now, I will keep both to see if they will both report. If not, I will try to have them consolidated. Thanks again.
