Very interesting. I was not able to recreate the popup myself. Can't wait to see what other GE (Synchrony) stores start doing this.

Did the preapproval amount change if you had more stuff in your cart?

Not sure if the amount would change although when I was placing my order I had $98 worth of stuff in my cart. Many have stated that they were not able to get the "pop-up" again if they did not accept it the first time. My TU FICO is at 681 right now.

I got a pop up offer for a Dillards American Express. I turned it down. I also got a soft pull on Experian. I would not recommend accepting this offer unless Experian is frozen.

I wouldn't recommend taking your next breath unless Experian is frozen. :)

What is wrong with a soft pull?

There is an April 1st date on that news release...

I don't get out much, and our only TV stopped working.

If you accept the offer, there will be a hard pull.

The whole point of the shopping cart trick is to get a card WITHOUT a hard pull. What did your pop-up offer say?

I'm not saying its not true--I just found the date amusing.

Shopping cart = soft unless your credit is really in the toilet in which case the inq is the last thing you need to worry about

Soft on Comenity not necessarily on GECRB.

Probably a hard on GE.

Even if it costs a hard, which it probably won't, Synchrony (formerly GECRB) pulls TU almost exclusively.

Which practically amounts to a soft anyway.

Good information. :good: The shop cart trick for Dillard's was not reliably confirmed before.

Anyone thinking about this should move fast, then jack up the CL ASAP via Synchrony's generous UWs before Wells Fargo takes over.

For someone looking to diversify their portfolio by adding a high CL tradeline with a different issuer (WF) this could be a good opportunity. Of course, for most, it won't be worth biting unless it the Dillard's Amex is offered.

This could be the only way I'll get a > $1,000 limit from Wells Fargo without an Experian pull.

It wouldn't work for me....but I went ahead and tried it with my mom's name and address.

She got offered the AMEX version with $1200 CL.

She might've actually taken it if there was a Dillards near us....

you filled out an app in another name?????????????? SP/HP is that not against the law?

I understood that to mean geekcub put stuff in the online shopping cart and started to check out with his mom's name and address. He didn't fill out an app and he didn't accept the approval. I don't see that being illegal (if he had actually opened the card without his mom's ok, that would be a different story).

If you ever get the Internet you can order things from www.dillards.com. People DO this.

I have a leather coat that I bought at a Dillards while on a business trip to Denver that turned unexpectedly arctic. The coat was like 375% off. :P

Point is you don't have to live near one to shop there.
