I got 3 cards recently that fit my lifestyle and find the others to be worthless. To each his/her own, but I don't see the point in 20+ cards. I understand some people get them for the $100-$200 sign up bonus or miles, but still pointless.

Edit: Maybe after I get my dream home for my girls and I things can be different. But for now, Im not building my credit for a goofy credit card. What are your goals?

Disable access to "creditboards.com" on all of your web browsers.

Go over to myfico.com and get your chatter on with everyone earning Bronze Spades, Silver Spades, etc. It's kinda like AA.

I wish we could keep that gardening stuff in the other forum...its like a cult. I don't see any use for it if you have a fairly strong profile. Go after the cards you want. and avoid the rest.

It may have worked just a tad better when it was called being on "Kona" ...well maybe not. The "old-timers" here will remember that. I just can't wrap my head around this gardening concept. Maybe it's too organic for me

I actually reading some of the Kona posts from back in the day. Wonder what happened to some of those old-timers? In general there were some really wise and hilarious folks on CB back then...

June, 2014 Garden Club meeting already has 2011 posts. That should keep you distracted.

Thanks for link, I will check this out. I rebuilt my credit thanks to CB and its my favorite distraction and "go to" for all things credit. I kinda get a preachy vibe on the other forum that makes me feel oddly guilty like a kid who ate too many cookies and didn't share...LOL. But my goal is to simmer down on the apps, grow my existing lines and reallocate some of them to better products, like my Barclay Arrival (aka Shiny Blue Turd - thanks CV) into something useful before the AF hits.

The point of 20+ cards is that with time your credit score doesn't vary much because you have so much available credit and such a long AAOA.

Basically, the amount of revolving credit you have access to is like a boat: the bigger it is, the less a wave will effect it.

To the OP: think of your rewards as "good enough", don't chase fractions of a cent in rewards and you should be able to avoid applying for anything else.

I don't see the point in 20+ cards.

you don't necessarily need 20, but you need more than 3 to have a really strong profile.

the purpose of good credit is to use it. it's all about appearing to be a low risk to lenders and a solid profile with many different cards and high total available credit.

also, the purpose of having high limits on many cards is that if you want to take advantage of a 0% deal for a while, you can afford to do that without tanking your util. with your 3 cards, if you were to take out 50-70% of one of those lines on 0%, you'd kill your util and likely result in AA.

if you have 20 cards and that 50-70% of one CL is 3% of your total util, it will hardly affect you.

again, the purpose is putting yourself in a position to better take advantage of your good credit.

This is so true. We bought a house this year and I finally used my Lowe's card for the 5% off. Utilized over 50% on it but because of my 21 cards, it was barely a bump in my overall utilization and I saved a few bucks. Wouldn't have been possible with only a few cards.

That's why I edited and said my reasoning for not going on a huge app spree. New house and new car are priority over 5% back from Lowes. That's why I asked the OP's goals. If he/she is happy with the current living and driving arrangements and debt is paid off, APP AWAY!

We had season tickets this year, but not the President's Club.

My spouse almost had a heart attack over the cost when I bought the ones we have... And I wanted better seats, but we compromised and simply got seats that didn't completely suck. We got Row S in the center.

Looks like we won't be in San Diego to see Once on 8/16, the final performance of the series.

Row F. Sprung for the PC to get the parking. We are seeing Once with some friends and Joseph next week. Excellent productions.

There's $5 parking on Beech, and it's just a few blocks' walk.

I opted out of Joseph. The image of Donny Osmond as Joseph smeared all over mid-1990s Chicago-market TV ads is etched permanently on my brain. "Go, go, go, go!"

No, no, no no!
