Does Opting Out improve your scores? its been so long since someone spontaneously wanted to give me credit that I don't know if I should bother. top score is in mid 600's with TU but they are climbing fast as stuff is taken off of tradelines and resolved...

It doesn't do anything for your scores.

It does nothing for your scores. What some say it will do is make it easier for you to dispute things like old addresses and eventually dispute baddies that may be tied to them. It also slows the frequency of credit card offers which if your credit is bad are probably all crappy offers that you don't need and don't need to be tempted by.

What he's getting at is that half of credit repair is building new, positive tradelines and that by opting out you will not received preapproved offers.

The big reason is that some collection agencies use the "preapproval" process in a different way than consumers think it is always done. They subscribe to get lists of people not necessarily with good credit, but with other factors in recent activity, particularly applying for a mortgage. Those people get more aggressively collected on, since they have demonstrated that they care about having bad credit.

Does nothing for your scores. Now, I've always been opted out and didn't have any problem building my credit but my problems weren't credit card CO's.

 

I think you can do just fine building while opted out so long as you haven't burned a bunch of the big creditors. If you have, well, you definitely need to stay opted in.
